Eurovision 2026: Germany continues to signal its support for Israel ahead of the dramatic discussion on its participation in Eurovision 2026 – What is the encouraging message conveyed from countries that were previously considered opposing Israel’s participation?
At the start of one of the most tense days for Eurovision fans in Israel, a statement arrives that allows a moment of breathing room – but also sharpens the extent of the uncertainty. Germany, one of Europe’s most influential countries and a prominent partner of the EBU, confirms that in recent weeks it has invested extensive diplomatic efforts to ensure Israel is not expelled from the competition. However, alongside the overt support, its messages point to a complex reality, where behind the diplomatic smiles there is still no certainty regarding the outcome – an outcome that may affect not only Israel, but on the entire Eurovision Song Contest.
This statement comes as the public in Israel and around the world follows developments with bated breath, against the backdrop of the fateful discussion to be held today.
Germany: “We Made Many Attempts – But No One Knows How It Will End”
According to a report by Dov Gil-Har, KAN correspondent for European Union affairs, Wolfram Weimer, the German commissioner for culture and media, addressed the issue of Israel’s participation in Eurovision and said:
“In recent weeks we tried, in many conversations, to ensure that Israel can sing… but we don’t know exactly what the outcome will be”.
According to him, some of those countries were even previously considered staunch supporters of a boycott move against Israel, which illustrates the depth of the diplomatic effort and its importance in Germany’s opinion.
On July 8th, 2025, we published an official statement from the German national broadcaster that expressed unqualified support for Israel:
“The Eurovision Song Contest is a celebration that unites cultures, religions and identities – and Israel has met the competition’s rules for over 60 years”.
On October 6th, 2025, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz clarified that if Israel is expelled, he would support Germany not participating in Eurovision.
Verdict in a Few Hours: The Whole World Is Waiting
The fateful discussion will take place today in the afternoon hours, and the official decision is expected to be published only after the end of the discussion day, probably around 17:00 CET. Until then, Israel – along with millions of viewers in Europe – will remain in suspense. We will be here to report on all developments.
