French Eurovision representative Monroe met around 200 Eurovision fans in Paris, shared a message of unity, and answered questions ranging from her preparations and excitement for the contest to her favorite Eurovision 2026 entry.
On the last Saturday, a moving meeting was held between the French representative Monroe and about 200 Eurovision fans, which took place in Paris, France. The meeting was held in a Q&A format, at the end of which the fans surprised Monroe and sang her song “Regarde!” (in English: “Look!”), with which she will compete at Eurovision this year, and immediately afterwards the singer joined them and sang together with them in a completely spontaneous way. This is the singer’s first public performance of the song since it was revealed, and until this meeting she had not yet been interviewed and had not participated in any Eurovision party.
“This is a Moment of Unity, For Me it’s Powerful”
After the uproar that occurred in recent days, in which the anti‑Israeli organization BDS sent a letter to Monroe calling on her to withdraw from the contest following Israel’s participation, it seems that the singer is careful to avoid political statements and talks about her excitement at taking part in Eurovision this year. Monroe says that she has known Eurovision since she was a child and adds that participating in Eurovision has been on her radar for some time. Moreover, Monroe explains what the Eurovision Song Contest is for her:
“This is a moment of unity that allows us to see different cultures and musical genres on the same stage, for me it is powerful”.
Later, Monroe talks about her experience after winning the talent show in the classical music genre “Prodiges”. Monroe says that she found common ground with other young people she met in the contest who are enthusiastic about art and music just like her, and she relates this situation to Eurovision and emphasizes the goal for which this contest was created – to unite people through music, exactly like the slogan of the contest this year as well: “United By Music”.
In one of the questions, she was asked about the meaning of the song and she describes it as a song about a universal love story that can be expressed and interpreted in various ways, whether it is the love of a mother for her child, self‑love, or even love for nature.
“It’s Exciting to See That People React to My Song”
Monroe shares the different reactions she receives to the song and about the enthusiasm and excitement of coming across reaction videos to her song. She says that she used to watch closely the reaction videos of those same people who are now reacting to her song, back when they were reacting to songs by other artists. She continues to share and tells about a situation that happened to her, in which she saw on social networks two children singing her song, and she said that it moved her very much to see this video because in her childhood she used to do the very same thing.
Monroe’s Favorite Eurovision Song
Monroe continued to answer the fans’ questions and revealed that her favorite Eurovision song of all time is the song by Celine Dion “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi” with which she won Eurovision 1988. Afterwards, when she was asked about her favorite Eurovision song this year, Monroe hesitated because she did not want to hurt the other participants competing with her in the contest, but in the end she answered that her favorite Eurovision song this year is the song by Akylas with the song “Ferto”. Monroe described the song as a lively, joyful song that makes her want to dance. In addition, she mentioned the names of songs from other countries participating this year such as Italy, Luxembourg and Germany.
Monroe – Who Are You?
Monroe is a 17‑year‑old opera singer, born to a French mother and an American father, who grew up in the Salt Lake City area in Utah, USA. She took her first steps in music as a child in her local church choir. Her major breakthrough with French audiences came only recently, when in January 2025 she won first place in the 11th season of “Prodiges,” the classical music talent show broadcast by the French national broadcaster.
Her musical style is characterised by a distinctive blend of classical music and pop. In November, she released her debut album under the major label Warner Music, featuring classical performances alongside cover versions of timeless pieces such as “L’hymne à l’amour“ by Édith Piaf and “Over the rainbow“. In December, she became a viral online sensation after her performance of the hit “Berghain“ by singer Rosalía, accompanied by a pianist under the glass roof of London’s King’s Cross railway station, captured widespread attention on social media. Despite her young age, Monroe already has impressive stage experience and is currently on a concert tour in churches and cathedrals that will run until October.
France at Eurovision 2026
“Regarde!” (in English: “Look!”) is the title of the song to be performed by Monroe, who will represent France at Eurovision 2026. The singer will present the song for the first time in the second semi-final on May 14th, but as she is representing one of the Big 5 countries, she will automatically qualify for the grand final on May 16th.
The song is a dramatic operatic ballad, which is exactly what we could expect based on our brief familiarity with the singer. It seems to be attempting to emulate last year’s Austrian victory. The track opens with a dramatic violin introduction, with strings that continue to accompany it throughout, and it clearly feels very French in character. The climactic part of the chorus consists solely of operatic vocal lines rather than actual words. The music video begins with a young Monroe pressing a button, then shifts to a building in Paris where Monroe is surrounded by dancers, with everything aiming for a very classical and meticulously crafted aesthetic. The overall atmosphere is very dark.
Currently, France is ranked 2nd in the betting tables ahead of Eurovision 2026.
Eurovision 2026: This will be France’s 67th participation in Eurovision. France joined the competition in 1956 and has won it five times over the years. France’s last victory was in Eurovision 1977 with the song “L’Oiseau et l’Enfant” performed by singer Marie Myriam.
