The “Bangaranga” frenzy in Bulgaria is reaching a new peak: the official “Varna Day” festival for 2026 will be dedicated this year to the historic achievement of the singer DARA at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. With a massive budget, a giant stage, and a lineup of stars – here are all the details about the summer mega-show.

The historic achievement of DARA on the Eurovision 2026 stage in Vienna continues to shake Bulgaria, and this time through the highest municipal levels. The culture council in the Bulgarian coastal city of Varna has decided to take up the gauntlet and officially announced: the “Varna Day” festival, which takes place every year on August 25th, will be completely dedicated this year to the local singer who was born and raised in the city, and to her glorious victory that brought immense pride to the country.

The dramatic decision was made during a special meeting of the Committee for Culture and Spiritual Development in the Varna Municipal Council, where the cultural budgets for the months of July and August were approved as part of the official municipal budget for 2026. The organizers have already sent an official invitation to DARA in order to secure her arrival as the main artist of the event, which will be called “The Voice of Varna”.

The artistic concept revealed in the committee is particularly exciting for fans of the competition: the entire musical program of the evening will be related to the Eurovision world, with a lineup of artists and performers who are connected in one way or another to the history of the European song contest expected to take the giant stage.

A Massive Budget of 160,000 Euros for the Mega Production

To understand the scale of the event, the Varna municipality allocated a huge sum of 160,000 euros for this single show alone, out of a total cultural budget of approximately 340,000 euros. The historic show will be held at the most iconic location in the city – the Pantheon complex located inside the famous Sea Gardens, on the coast of the Black Sea.

The generous budget will cover the construction of a custom giant stage, advanced lighting systems, massive LED screens, professional sound systems, copyrights, and of course the fee for DARA and the other participating artists. In addition, the municipality will fund a heavy police security operation, fencing, medical and fire brigade teams, as well as professional video and still photography documentation to immortalize the night that is expected to attract tens of thousands of fans from all over the country.

A Budget Struggle That Ended in a Victory for Culture

The celebratory concert almost ran into difficulties after it emerged in previous council meetings that the mayor did not initially include budgets for several traditional cultural events in the city. The council members expressed harsh resentment over the lack of funding for long-standing cultural institutions, including the Varna International Jazz Festival, the honorary titles award ceremony at the Summer Theater, and the classical music concert “By the Fountain”.

Following public and political pressure, the necessary corrections were introduced and the budget was increased from 294,200 euros to 340,100 euros – which not only guaranteed the existence of those veteran institutions, but above all paved the way for the magnificent tribute evening for DARA. The full performance schedule, including the list of Eurovision stars who will come to celebrate with the artist, is expected to be revealed during the coming month.

Bulgaria in Eurovision 2026

Bangaranga” is the song performed by the singer DARA, which represented Bulgaria in Vienna, Austria. DARA won the contest and got 516 points in the final. The song was written and composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos and Cristian Tarcea. While this is the performer’s first Eurovision entry, it marks the 15th song in the contest for composer Dimitris Kontopoulos. The song is performed entirely in English.

Eurovision 2027: This wil be Bulgaria’s 16th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Bulgaria joined the competition in 2005 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2026 when the singer Dara finished in first place with the song “Bangaranga”.
