Some familiar names: Luxembourgish broadcaster narrows its selection to 12 acts after auditions for Luxembourg’s singer at Eurovision 2027.

The first stage of “Luxembourg Song Contest 2027”, concluded over the weekend, revealing a shortlist of 12 contestants who will continue competing for the opportunity to represent the small nation at the upcoming contest in Burgas, Bulgaria.

This year, the national broadcaster RTL decided to introduce a refreshing change to the selection process for the song and representative. Instead of requiring participants to perform an original song during the initial audition stage, artists were permitted to perform covers. This format allowed the judges to focus on the vocal abilities, artistic identity, and stage presence of each singer. Additionally, thanks to this change, artists who had not yet released music could step forward and try their luck.

Over the weekend, 80 artists performed before the judging panel. Following a rigorous evaluation, only 12 contestants received the anticipated call and were invited back to the RTL City complex, where they were informed of their advancement to the next stage.

Elisabeth Conter, project manager for RTL, shared:

“We noticed already during the auditions that the change in the selection structure allowed us to discover completely new faces. These are people we haven’t met before, who decided to take part precisely because they were allowed to perform a cover. Now the goal is to find songs for these artists that fit the Eurovision world.”

Stages of Selecting the Representative for Eurovision 2027

The selection of the Luxembourgish representative can be divided into three stages: the candidate selection stage, the song filtering stage, and the decisive matching workshop stage.

First Stage – Candidate Selection:

This first stage is currently underway, with candidates undergoing auditions these days. Contestants are evaluated based on their vocal ability, artistic identity, and performance skills. The selected candidates will advance to the next stage of the process, and their names will be revealed following the auditions.

Second Stage – Song Selection:

In the second stage, candidate songs will be chosen. Alongside the artist selection, the call for writers and composers remains open. This allows local and international creators to submit songs to the Luxembourg Song Contest (LSC). The selected artists are also invited to submit their own songs. To date, over 300 songs have been submitted, and registration remains open until October 29th.

Third Stage – The Matching Workshop:

In the next stage – the matching workshop: the 12 selected candidates will be paired with songs written by Eurovision experts and professionals whose names are expected to be revealed later. This new workshop is designed as a creative bonding process focused on the selected artists. Its goal is to find the most promising artist-song combination with strong Eurovision potential to bring Luxembourg the best possible result.

The Final List Will Be Revealed in Mid-November!

The final list of finalists will be announced following the matching workshop, planned to take place in early November. The finalists will perform at the Luxembourg Song Contest at the Rockhal venue on January 30th, 2027. Ticket sales for the LSC will open in early December, and the winner of the contest will represent Luxembourg on the big stage at Eurovision 2027. Exactly how many artists will compete in the local selection? Currently, that remains unknown.
