Czechia has confirmed participation in Eurovision 2025, opening song submissions. However, the selection method for their entry remains unclear.
The Czech national broadcaster, ÄŒT, has opened the submission window for songs to select Czechia’s representative for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. The submission period will remain open until September 30, 2024.
This announcement effectively confirms Czechia’s participation in the upcoming Eurovision, making it the 26th country so far to express interest in Eurovision 2025. Other confirmed countries include Austria, Azerbaijan, Italy, Belgium, United Kingdom, Georgia, Germany, Denmark, Israel, Luxembourg, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Malta, Norway, San Marino, Spain, Serbia, Portugal, Finland, France, Cyprus, Croatia, Sweden, and host country Switzerland.
However, no further details were provided regarding the selection process itself or specific dates for a national final or the reveal of the chosen representative and song. ÄŒT has not yet specified whether the Czech representative will be chosen through an internal selection or via a national final.
Since 2018, Czechia has selected its Eurovision representatives through the national final ESCZ, except for 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s possible they may use ESCZ again this year, but we’ll have to wait for official announcements on the matter.
Additionally, the broadcaster stated they reserve the right to cancel the entire selection process at any time if, for any reason, they end up not participating in Eurovision. While no specific conditions or clear rules for submission were given, the registration form can be found here.
Since Czechia began using the ESCZ national final, the country has seen ups and downs in Eurovision. In 2018, singer Mikoláš Josef brought the country’s best result to date – 6th place. In 2019, Lake Malawi finished 11th. Eurovision 2020 was cancelled, and in 2021 Benny Cristo was selected internally.
In Eurovision 2022, We Are Domi returned the country to the grand final with “Lights Off”, finishing 22nd. For Eurovision 2023, Vesna brought the country an impressive 10th place finish in the grand final with “My Sister’s Crown”, the country’s second-highest Eurovision achievement. After two consecutive years in the grand final, Czechia failed to qualify for Eurovision 2024, as singer Aiko narrowly missed the final, finishing 11th in the second semi-final with her song “Pedestal”.

Aiko represented Czechia in Eurovision 2024 with the song “Pedestal.” The song was selected through a national final. Aiko did not advance to the grand final, finishing in 11th place in the semi-final with only 38 points.
