The Ukranian national broadcaster Suspilne confirmed Ukranian’s participation in Eurovision 2027. The representative will be chosen via Vidbir.
The Ukranian national broadcaster, Suspilne, has confirmed that the country will participate in next year’s contest in Burgas, and that the Ukranian representative will be selected through “Vidbir” the country’s longstanding Eurovision national selection.
With this, Ukraine becomes the 26th country to confirm its participation in Eurovision 2027, joining a list of countries that includes: the United Kingdom, Estonia, Poland, Germany, North Macedonia, Australia, Canada (participating for the first time), and the host country, Bulgaria.
Ukraine has already begun preparations for its national final, Vidbir, which will take place against the backdrop of the country’s complex security situation and the potential challenges during the winter months. The Ukranian national broadcaster emphasizes that every necessary effort will be made to allow Ukrainian artists to present their songs and give the public the opportunity to choose the artist who will represent the country at Eurovision.
According to Suspilne, the national selection is not only a musical event, but also an opportunity to strengthen Ukrainian culture and provide a platform for the country’s younger generation of artists. Ukraine views participation in Eurovision as a significant tool for cultural diplomacy and for maintaining its presence on the international stage.
Who Will Replace Jamala as Musical Producer?
The announcement of Ukraine’s participation in Eurovision 2027 comes after Jamala announced that she would not continue in her role as the musical producer of the Ukrainian national final, Vidbir. The Eurovision 2016 winner, who served as Vidbir’s musical producer for the first time in 2026, announced that she had decided to take a break from participating in talent shows and therefore will not be involved in selecting the participants for Eurovision 2027.
Suspilne will now need to appoint a new musical producer to lead the selection process ahead of Eurovision 2027. This is a key role in the process, involving, among other responsibilities, evaluating candidates and working professionally with the participating artists. As of now, it has not yet been announced who will take over from Jamala in the role.
Ukraine at Eurovision: Major Success and an Impressive Record
Ukraine, alongside Sweden, is the most successful country at Eurovision in the 21st century. It has won the contest three times in 2004 with Ruslana and her song “Wild Dances”, in 2016 with Jamala and her song “1944”, and in 2022 with Kalush Orchestra and their song “Stefania”.
In addition, Ukraine has finished in second place twice and third place twice, and has never failed to qualify for the Eurovision final.
Ukraine at Eurovision 2026
“Ridnym” is the title of the song that was performed by Leléka, who represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, Austria. Leléka finished 9th in the grand final with 221 points. The song was written by Viktoria Leléka, who also performs it, together with Adama Cefalu.
The main message of the song is that precisely through confronting fear and transforming pain into joy, people can grow to new heights and lead the way home, much like trees that rise even higher after the storm.
Eurovision 2027: This will be Ukraine’s 22nd participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Ukraine joined the competition in 2003 and has won it three times. Ukraine’s last victory was in Eurovision 2022 with the song “Stefania” performed by Kalush Orchestra.
