Estonia is on its way to Eurovision 2027! The Estonian national broadcaster ERR has confirmed that the country will participate in next year’s contest in Burgas, and that the Estonian representative will be selected through “Eesti Laul,” the country’s longstanding Eurovision national selection. With this, Estonia becomes the 24th country to confirm its participation in Eurovision 2027, joining a list of countries that includes: the United Kingdom, Germany, North Macedonia, Australia, Canada (participating for the first time), and the host country, Bulgaria.
Song Registration for Eesti Laul 2027 Gets Underway
Registration for “Eesti Laul 2027” will open on this Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00 CET. At this stage, ERR has not yet revealed the deadline for song submissions, so further details are expected to be published later.
Format Changes in the Estonian Selection and Expectations for the 2027 Edition
Last year, the Estonian national selection underwent a significant change when the semi-finals were canceled for the first time since 2010, and the entire competition was held as a single grand final featuring 16 competing songs. The winner was determined in two rounds of voting: in the first round, a combination of an international jury and the public vote selected three contestants who advanced to the Super-final, where the decision was left entirely in the hands of the audience. It is not yet known whether this same format will be kept for “Eesti Laul 2027.”
From Rebuilding to Returning to the Eurovision Final
Estonia is warming up its engines ahead of the local Eurovision selection following a disappointing year at Eurovision. After Tommy Cash‘s impressive third-place in 2025 with the song “Espresso Macchiato“, expectations for the country were high. However, they took a hit in 2026 when the band Vanilla Ninja, who won Eesti Laul with the song “Too Epic To Be True”, failed to qualify for the Eurovision final and were eliminated in the first semi-final, missing the final by just one spot. Now, Estonia will try to turn over a new leaf and find the song and representative that can bring them back to the final in 2027.
Estonia at Eurovision 2026
“Too Epic To Be True” is the song that was performed by the girl group Vanilla Ninja, which represented Estonia as song number 9 in the first semi final on May 12th, in Vienna, Austria. The song reached 11th place in the semi final with 79 points.
The song was written by Estonian composer Sven Lõhmus, who wrote many songs that represented Estonia at Eurovision in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2017, and also the song that represented Estonia at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2024. The song is performed entirely in English.
Eurovision 2027: This will be Estonia’s 32nd participation in Eurovision. Estonia joined the contest in 1994 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2001 when singers Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL, won first place with the song “Everybody”.
