Slovene singer Klemen Slakonja, already familiar with the Eurovision world, has announced that he submitted a song for the Slovene national selection to choose the representative for Eurovision 2025 in Basel.

Slovene singer Klemen Slakonja has officially announced that he submitted a song for the Slovene national selection. Slakonja is a well-known figure in the Slovene Eurovision scene, having hosted the national selection four times and delivered Slovenia’s points at Eurovision in 2011.

Slovenia has confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 and declared that the representative will be chosen through the national selection “EMA 2025”, scheduled for February 1st, which will determine Slovenia’s representative for Eurovision 2025 in Switzerland.

Slakonja piqued the interest of Eurovision fans in Slovenia when he asked his followers: “I have a song that’s not ‘typical Eurovision’ but at the same time sounds ideal for Eurovision – should I try?”

Today, Slakonja announced in a post on his Instagram account that he has officially submitted a song for Eurovision 2025. Slakonja is particularly known among Eurovision enthusiasts for his performance in the 2020 Slovene national selection, where he meticulously recreated all of Slovenia’s Eurovision performances year by year. It appears that he is deeply connected to the country’s Eurovision heritage and is ready to carry the flag and represent it with pride.

Format of the Slovene National Selection

The submission deadline is set for November 25th. A selection committee, comprising at least 3 judges, will choose 12 songs from all received entries to compete in the national final. The complete list of artists and songs is expected to be published on December 20th, and on February 1st, we will know which song will represent Slovenia at Eurovision 2025.

The winning song will be chosen through a two-round voting system:

  1. In the first round, five jury panels will vote, with each panel awarding points to every song, similar to the Eurovision voting system. Each jury panel will consist of five members, divided into categories: musicians, TV professionals, radio professionals, members of the OGAE Eurovision fan club, and Eurovision-focused social media influencers.
  2. In the second round, the two songs with the highest total points will compete against each other. The winner of EMA 2025 will be determined by public televoting.

Slovenia in Eurovision 2024:

“Veronika” is the name of the song performed by Raiven, who was chosen to represent Slovenia through an internal selection by the national broadcaster. Slovenia advanced to the final after placing ninth in the first semi-final with 51 points, and in the grand final, they finished 23rd with 27 points.

This is the second consecutive time Slovenia has qualified for the final, matching their qualification streaks in 2014-2015 and 2018-2019. However, this is Slovenia’s lowest placement in a final since Eurovision 2014.
