Aiming Higher: TVR officially confirms Romania for Eurovision 2027, aiming even higher than last year’s best result

Romania’s national broadcaster TVR has officially confirmed the country’s participation in Eurovision 2027. Romania becomes the 15th country to confirm its place in next year’s contest, joining debutant Canada, Italy, Israel, Denmark, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the host country – Bulgaria.

Romania officially approved its participation in Eurovision 2027, which will take place next May in Bulgaria, following a meeting of the public broadcaster’s board of directors. By confirming its participation at such an early stage, TVR hopes to maximize public interest and encourage as many artists and viewers as possible to engage with the competition.

Romania is expected to once again select its Eurovision entry through its long-running national selection, “Selectia Nationala.” However, the format is expected to undergo significant changes after last year’s edition drew criticism for being overly complicated and featuring a large number of songs that many fans felt were not suitable for Eurovision.

A revamped selection process could help Romania strengthen its chances as it looks to build on its recent Eurovision success.

The remaining question is whether Romania can replicate its outstanding result from Eurovision 2026, when Alexandra Capitanescu finished in third place with “Choke Me” – the country’s best Eurovision result to date.



Romania at Eurovision 2026

“Choke Me” is the song that was performed by the singer Alexandra Căpitănescu, which represented Romania in Eurovision 2026. Romania qualified from the second semi final, and finished the whole context in the 3rd place, with 296 points, bringing the best Romanian result in the Eurovision Song Contest till date.

Eurovision 2027: This will be Romania’s 26th participation in Eurovision. Romania joined the contest in 1994 and achieved its best result both in Eurovision 2005, Eurovision 2010, and Eurovision 2026 when Romania finished in third place.
