Andorra returning? An exceptional collaboration between the Catalan broadcaster, Cat3, and Andorra might lead to the country’s return to Eurovision 2026! All the details in the article.

Andorra, the Catalan principality nestled between Spain and France, has not been a regular participant in Eurovision since 2010. However, a new collaboration proposed between the Catalan broadcaster, Cat3, and Andorra could change this scenario! The Catalan broadcaster intends to select Andorra’s Eurovision representative for 2026 using the reality show “Euforia,” which is similar in format to the program previously used by Spain to choose their representative, “Operacion Triunfo.”

The collaboration between Andorra and the Catalan broadcaster has not yet been officially confirmed. However, Cat3 is actively preparing, and meetings have already taken place with Andorran government officials to present the project.

In recent years, Susanne Georgi, Andorra’s Eurovision representative in 2009, has been working to bring Andorra back to Eurovision, albeit unsuccessfully until now. However, it seems the cards have changed this time, and the Andorran national broadcaster may not be involved in the selection process. Instead, the Catalan broadcaster might join the European Broadcasting Union and send the representative and song to Eurovision 2026 itself.

The Spanish national broadcaster, RTVE, has not expressed opposition to this move but has clarified that the status of the Catalan broadcaster would need to change, and it should enter into discussions with the European Broadcasting Union.

The small principality, located in the Eastern Pyrenees between France and Spain, has participated in Eurovision only six times – between 2004 and 2009. It is also the only country in the history of the competition that has never competed in the final, as all six of its candidates failed to advance from the semi-finals. The highest position Andorra managed to reach was 12th place in the Eurovision 2007 semi-final.

Andorra in Eurovision

Andorra’s romance with the Eurovision contest began in 2004 when the small country located between Spain and France joined the competition for the first time and participated continuously until 2009. After six consecutive years in which Andorra did not advance to the final of the competition, and is in fact considered today as the only country that participated in Eurovision but never made it to the final, Andorra withdrew from Eurovision due to financial difficulties and the many failures that caused the public to lose interest in the competition.
