Getting started: About two weeks before the arrival of artists and delegations in Basel, preparations for the shows are ramping up, as today the stand-in rehearsals will take place on the stage of St. Jakobshalle in Basel!

In approximately two weeks, 37 delegations from the participating countries will make their way to Basel, Switzerland, for the Eurovision 2025 contest, which will take place on May 13, 15, and 17. Before the live shows, the artists will have the opportunity to experience the grand stage constructed for the competition at St. Jakobshalle. However, each country is allotted a limited rehearsal time. To ensure optimal preparation for the performances, stand-in rehearsals for the contest began today.

What Are Stand-In Rehearsals?

Stand-in rehearsals are sessions in which a local stand-in simulates the artist’s stage performance, following the staging video submitted by each delegation to the production team. This process is designed to verify how the planned performance appears on the large stage, with efforts to replicate the choreography, staging, and sometimes even the costumes of the competing country’s act.

The simulation by stand-ins takes place while the actual contestants remain in their home countries. Only at a later stage will the artists have the chance to request changes during the technical rehearsals at the contest venue.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Switzerland’s 65th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Switzerland joined the competition in 1956, being one of the seven founding countries, and has won three times over the years. Its most recent victory was at the last Eurovision in 2025, with Nemo’s song “The Code.” This win follows Switzerland’s previous victory in 1988 with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi,” performed by international singer Céline Dion.
