Spain in Eurovision 2025: Singer Melody took the stage for her second rehearsal with the song “Esa Diva”. Stay updated with all the reports from Basel, Switzerland

The Spanish singer Melody was the fifteenth and last act to rehearse today on the Eurovision 2025 stage with her song “Esa Diva“. She will perform in the first semi-final on May 13th between song number 4 (Estonia) and song number 5 (Ukraine), and in the grand final to be held on May 17th.

In the video released from rehearsal, Melody stands on a marble-like square structure with stairs on both sides. She wears a silver bodysuit with fringe and embedded stones, along with black over-the-knee boots with silver laces. In front of her on stage are five dancers dressed in black. The lighting is white with flashes. From the ceiling, there is a fireworks effect that descends at the peak moment of the chorus.

On the screen behind Melody, there are segments of broken marble frames that come together after one of the lighting flashes. The LED floor is painted white and everything is very bright. Toward the end of the video, one of the dancers can be seen climbing onto the marble structure, probably to dance with Melody. There is a noticeable improvement in Melody’s vocal performance.

Spain at Eurovision 2025: More details about the rehearsal performance

Melody’s staging has undergone a variety of changes since the Spanish national final. Hopefully, the “helicopter hair” is now a thing of the past. The throne is gone, but there are still height dynamics in the form of the marble-like structure at the center of the main stage. According to the photos, Melody starts with a red curtain backdrop, and then the marble structures are revealed on the screens as the tone shifts to white hues and an especially bright stage. Additionally, the microphone matches the outfit. The choreography seems less complex for Melody herself, which makes the performance cleaner and reduces the effort needed for her to sing. As mentioned, her singing has improved since the national final, but there are still parts she struggles with, and backing vocals support her.

Spain in Eurovision 2025

Esa Diva” (in English: “That Diva”) is the title of the song to be performed by singer Melody, who will represent Spain at Eurovision 2025, which will take place in Basel, Switzerland, in the grand final to be held on May 17th. The song was written by Alberto Fuentes Lorite and the singer herself – Melodia Ruiz Gutiérrez. This is the first Eurovision entry for both songwriters. The song is performed exclusively in Spanish.

The song deals with the true meaning of being a diva – not someone who looks down on others, but a strong, brave, and authentic woman who expresses herself through her music and art. It emphasizes a message of equality, female empowerment, and the recognition that a diva can be any woman, whether she is a singer on stage or a mother facing everyday challenges.

Currently, Spain is ranked 18th in the betting odds ahead of Eurovision 2025.

Melodia Ruiz Gutierrez, known by her stage name Melody, is a Spanish pop star born on October 12th, 1990, in Dos Hermanas, near Seville, Andalusia. Melody has an established and impressive career spanning over 25 years. She began her journey at a very young age, with her first hit “El Baile Del Gorila” released when she was only 10 years old, becoming one of the biggest summer hits of 2001 in Spain. Melody grew up in a family with strong ties to music; her father and some other family members played in a Sevillian fiesta band called “Los Quillos” or “Los Kiyos”, a Jackson 5-style children’s group.

Melody‘s musical career began when she was discovered by veteran producer and artist El Fary, after her father sent him a demo tape of her singing. Her debut album, “De pata negra”, was released in 2001 and became a massive hit, selling between 500,000 to 600,000 copies. The album earned double platinum certification in Spain and gold certification in the United States, and was also nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Spain’s 65th participation in Eurovision. Spain joined the competition in 1961 and won it twice consecutively in 1968 and 1969. Spain has hosted the contest on its territory only once in 1969 and since then holds the longest waiting time since its last victory – 55 years.
