DR updates Søren Torpegaard Lund’s staging for Eurovision 2026 with pyrotechnics and glass, as the Danish national broadcaster begins early 2027 hosting talks.
Denmark continues to solidify its position as one of the major favorites to win Eurovision 2026, and it seems things are heating up behind the scenes in Copenhagen – literally. Following an interview given to EuroMix at a pre-party in London, the Danish representative, Søren Torpegaard Lund, uploaded a photo to his Instagram account from the “last rehearsal before traveling to Vienna.” In the image, the singer can be seen alongside his dancers practicing inside what appears to be a scaffolding construction, confirming recent reports regarding the planned staging.
DR Enhances Danish Staging for Vienna
The manager of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, Erik Struve Hansen, is shedding light on what we can expect to see from within this intriguing “box” structure. According to him, the general concept that secured the victory for the artist in the national selection will be preserved, but it has undergone a process of refinement and upgrades to appear sharper and more powerful on the massive Eurovision stage.
The original “box” structure was packed and shipped to Austria, but new elements made of Perspex (a material simulating glass) were added to improve its visual presence for the cameras. Additionally, slight changes were made to the delegation’s costumes. Perhaps most exciting for Eurovision fans: the production has added pyrotechnics, including fire effects, to the performance. The delegation team recently completed sound rehearsals, and the performance is now considered “fully polished” – although many of its details are still being kept secret.

DR Initiates Preliminary Eurovision 2027 Hosting Discussions
While the singer is warming up his vocals, the management of the Danish national broadcaster (DR) is already thinking one step ahead. Hansen confirmed that the national broadcaster has already begun early contingency plans in case Denmark does indeed win the competition. This includes internal contacts and initial talks with potential venues across the country that could host Eurovision 2027.
“it would be irresponsible to be completely unprepared in the event of a Danish victory, even if such planning is still purely precautionary” Hansen explained regarding the unusual move. He emphasized that, at this stage, these are cautious and flexible discussions and that everything is still “written in pencil,” but the goal is clear: to ensure a smooth and rapid response if the Danish entry lifts the glass trophy in Vienna.
It appears Denmark did not come just to participate this year – they came to win. With an upgraded performance, immense support in the betting odds, and a national broadcaster already searching for a venue for next year, all eyes will be on the artist in the second semi-final.
More Surprises To Come?
Many fans fell in love with the performance during the Danish national selection, and the big question is what other surprises the Danish delegation is preparing for Vienna. In an interview conducted by Ilan Tsolver in London, the Danish representative was happy to provide an update: “I will give you more surprises! We are keeping the performance close to the original concept you loved, but we are going to see what else we can do and upgrade.”
