The Path For Eurovision Begins Now! The Canadian national broadcaster revealed when it will open song submissions for Eurovision 2027.

The Canadian national broadcaster continues its preparations for the historic debut at Eurovision 2027. CBC has now revealed that starting next Monday, August 31st, Canadian artists will be able to register and submit their candidacies and songs for the coveted contest, which will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria. Along with the opening of registration, the detailed criteria and conditions for song submission will be disclosed.

Unlike many countries that select their entries through an internal selection without public involvement, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney clarified a while ago that the choice of the country’s first entry will not be internal. During the official announcement, he promised that the Canadian public and the local music industry will take an active and significant role in the process.

“Canadian citizens will take upon themselves the tough decision – who will represent us at Eurovision. Our debut will be a national team effort,” the Prime Minister stressed, adding an especially moving sentence: “The world needs more Canada.”

CBC is expected to reveal full details, format rules, and the voting method of the national selection later this year. Interest among Eurovision fans and Canadians is exceptionally high due to Canada’s rich and high-quality music industry.

Enormous Industry Interest and a National Statement

Prime Minister Mark Carney clarified that the decision will not remain solely in the hands of national broadcaster executives. The national selection will have a structure that grants an active and significant role to the broader Canadian public, alongside professional music industry figures.

This marks the first time in Canadian history that local artists will receive an official opportunity to compete for a ticket to the world’s biggest stage. CBC expects an unprecedented response from songwriters and performers, as this offers a massive international exposure platform.

The Canadian government views this project as a “national team effort.” The goal is to rally the entire country around the project, with the ambition of showcasing Canada’s rich musical talent to the world. The Prime Minister further announced that all official details regarding the Canadian national selection will be published later in 2026.

Details To Be Revealed

  • Broadcast format: A single gala evening, or several semi-finals, similar to the Swedish national selection “Melodifestivalen”.

  • Eligibility criteria: What restrictions will be placed on artists and songwriters (e.g., mandatory Canadian citizenship, prohibition of artificial intelligence, etc.).

  • Voting system: How the weight will be divided between the public vote at home and music industry jury panels.

As mentioned, the eligibility criteria will be revealed in exactly one week! Will the remaining details also be unveiled at the same time? Only time will tell as fans wait to find out.
