Bulgaria’s national radio broadcasting organization BNR announces test events at Arena Burgas ahead of Eurovision 2027 following DARA’s historic win in Vienna.
Bulgaria’s national radio broadcasting organization BNR has announced that test events will take place at the venue ahead of Eurovision 2027 as part of the formal preparation process. Arena Burgas has already begun preparations to host the contest, with preliminary work and renovations currently underway and scheduled for completion toward the end of 2026.
Preparations and Technical Assessments Underway
According to the publication, the purpose of the test events is to evaluate internal logistics, acoustics, and other technical parameters inside the venue in the presence of official representatives from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). These test runs are scheduled to take place immediately after the completion of the ongoing arena renovations, which commenced the day after Burgas was selected as the host city. Burgas won the bidding process to host next year’s competition after edging out the proposal from the capital city, Sofia.
This will mark the first time that Bulgaria hosts the Eurovision Song Contest, following the historic victory of singer DARA at Eurovision 2026 held in Vienna, Austria last May. The chosen host venue can accommodate approximately 15,000 spectators during music performances and, following the current renovations, will be fully adapted to meet Eurovision requirements and welcome international audiences.
Burgas Takes Center Stage
For Burgas, this marks the first time the city will host a Eurovision event, although Sofia previously hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. The venue capacity stands at around 15,000 spectators for music events. Departing from last year’s setup, the host city is not the capital of the winning country, aligning with the trend seen across contests held between 2019 – 2025.
Burgas is the fourth-largest city in the country, with a population of approximately 189,086 residents as of December 2025.

Semi-final 1: May 11th, Tuesday
Semi-final 2: May 13th, Thursday
Grand Final: May 15th, Saturday
Eurovision 2027: The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Bulgaria, following the country’s historic win with the song “BAGARANGA” performed by DARA. This will be the first time the contest is hosted in Bulgaria.
