TRM has received an EBU extension to decide on Moldova’s Eurovision 2027 participation, with a final decision expected within days.
Moldova has yet to confirm its participation in Eurovision 2027, but the country has been granted additional time to make its decision. The Moldovan national broadcaster TRM approached the European Broadcasting Union and requested an extension to the deadline for confirming its participation in the contest, with the request approved. The extension comes as TRM completes its management transition, with the head of the Moldovan delegation expecting a decision within the coming days.
TRM Awaits New Management Before Making Eurovision Decision
Moldovan Head of Delegation Veronica Cojocaru confirmed that TRM had received the extension and explained that the national broadcaster had informed the EBU that additional time was needed. According to Cojocaru, the decision is primarily linked to the process of appointing TRM’s new management.
The changes at TRM began following Eurovision 2026. Shortly after the contest, the network’s then-Director General Vlad Țurcanu resigned amid controversy surrounding the points awarded by the Moldovan jury to Romania. Following his resignation, TRM launched a process during the summer to appoint a new Director General, while Moldova’s participation in Eurovision 2027 remained undecided.
On September 22nd, TRM decided that Ecaterina Cheptănaru would become its new Director General. Cheptănaru had already held a management position at the national broadcaster, serving as Deputy Director General for three months in 2025. Now that the management transition is being completed and the EBU has granted TRM an extension, the Moldovan national broadcaster can move forward with its decision regarding participation in the contest.
Moldova’s Eurovision 2027 Participation Still Unconfirmed
The decision is expected to be made within the coming days and will determine whether Moldova joins the countries taking part in Eurovision 2027, which will be held in Bulgaria. Until then, Moldova is still not officially confirmed as a participant in the 71st Eurovision Song Contest, with attention remaining on TRM’s official announcement.
The Eurovision 2027 Participation Picture
At present, 31 countries have officially confirmed their participation in Eurovision 2027. Two of them are returning countries – North Macedonia and the Netherlands. Canada will also join the competition for the first time in its history.
Meanwhile, Ireland and, reportedly, the Czech Republic are expected to withdraw from the contest. The official list of participating countries is expected to be revealed at the beginning of December.
“Viva, Moldova” was the song that was performed by the singer Satoshi, who represented Moldova as song number 16 in the final on May 17th, in Vienna, Austria, finishing 8th out of 35 with 226 points. The song was written by Satoshi himself, marking the first time he has ever competed in a national final for Eurovision. In the backing vocals joined him Aliona Moon, Moldova’s representative at Eurovision 2013. The song was performed in English and Romanian and blends multiple languages (Spanish, French and Italian).
