As preparations for Eurovision 2027 intensify, rumors suggest VRT may have already selected their representative.
Preparations for the Eurovision 2027 song contest are in full swing, and anticipation for the first confirmed names is growing. Following a publication by editor-in-chief and Eurovision expert Jasper van Biesen on the Belgian website songfestival.be, an intriguing first name has emerged. According to the report, the Belgian singer and actress Camille has been chosen by the Flemish national broadcaster VRT to represent the country in Burgas.
In a TikTok video, the editor suggested – though did not officially confirm – that Camille is the Belgian choice. She recently spent time in Stockholm producing music and is currently collaborating with Norwegian singer Elsie Bay, who previously co-wrote the song “Shh” for Theo Evan, the Cypriot entry in 2025. The two are recording music together, potentially for the contest in Bulgaria. Bay frequently writes for national finals, making it highly plausible she is penning the track Camille hopes to perform.

Who is Camille?
Camille is a Belgian singer, actress, and television host who initially gained recognition through YouTube covers. She starred in the series “#Likeme” and toured with the cast. Since 2020, she has been the lead singer of the cover band Pluto Was a Planet. That same year, she signed a recording contract with CNR Records, a label responsible for distributing several Belgian entries in the 1990s, which also recently worked with Red Sebastian, the Belgian entry for 2025. Several of her songs have reached high positions on the Ultratop singles chart, and in 2022, she won the Belgian version of “The Masked Singer”.
Another Curious Name for Belgium
Camille is not the only artist making headlines. In recent days, singer Maëlle Moquet publicly expressed her interest in representing the country. In an interview with Songfestival.be, Moquet shared her strong desire to participate, declaring that it would be a massive dream come true and that she is fully open to the opportunity if selected by VRT.
Moquet broke into the public consciousness during the latest season of “The Voice van Vlaanderen,” where she reached the live shows. She competed on the team of Joost Klein, the Dutch entry in 2024, who served as her personal mentor. The two have collaborated musically and reportedly discussed the possibility of Moquet taking the Eurovision stage in the future.
The young singer’s passion for the contest was evident during the reality show, where she performed two of the most memorable winning songs in the competition’s history: “Euphoria” by Loreen, which brought victory to Sweden in 2012, and “Rise Like a Phoenix” by Conchita Wurst, who took first place for Austria in 2014. Time will tell if either Moquet or Camille will secure the ticket.
VRT Confirms 2027 Participation
VRT has officially confirmed its participation in 2027. The national broadcaster had been in continuous dialogue with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) regarding issues raised previously, primarily centered around the inclusion of the Israeli entry. VRT asked the EBU to present the rules and criteria determining countries’ eligibility to participate in a clearer and more transparent manner.
VRT CEO Frederik Delaplace stated that their continued involvement aims to maintain open dialogue, expressing hope that the music competition can soon regain its meaningful impact globally for those currently suffering from war and violence.
Last year, the French-speaking Belgian national broadcaster RTBF denied a return, passing the responsibility to the Flemish VRT, which has now confirmed its involvement.
Union Backlash Follows Broadcaster’s Eurovision Decision
Following VRT’s decision to participate, the national broadcaster faced pressure from internal labor organizations. Two major unions, ACR VRT and ACOD VRT, announced plans to strike during the semi-finals and the grand final. According to their statements, the unions aim to protect employees who hold moral objections to contributing to the broadcasts due to Israel’s participation. ACR VRT expressed hope that the broadcaster will reverse its decision, warning that if the broadcasts are disrupted as a result of the strikes, they will stand by their actions.
An Internal Selection for 2027
In addition to the union disputes, VRT NEWS – the official news portal of the national broadcaster – reported that the 2027 Belgian entry will be selected internally. This is not unprecedented for the country, which also opted for an internal selection in 2026 with Essyla, who finished 21st in the final with “Dancing on the ice“. The last Belgian national final took place in 2025, where the country failed to qualify for the grand final. The confirmation of an internal selection further fuels the ongoing speculation surrounding Camille’s potential casting.
Belgium at Eurovision 2026
“Dancing on the Ice” is the song that was performed by Essyla, who represented Belgium at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, Austria. Essyla finished 21st in the grand final with 36 points. The song was written by Essyla herself, alongside songwriter Barbara Petitjean. The song is performed entirely in English.
The lyrics present a distinct “anti-heroine” character – one who declares disloyalty and claims a crown that does not belong to her. The central imagery of dancing on ice where “everything is dead” serves as a powerful metaphor for survival against all odds – precisely within the cold and solitude, the speaker finds her satisfaction and sense of existence. The song creates a sharp contrast between heat and cold, and between pain and pleasure.
Eurovision 2027: This will Belgium’s 68th participation in the contest. Belgium joined Eurovision in 1956 as one of its seven founding nations. The country’s best result came in 1986, when Sandra Kim won first place with “J’aime la vie”.
