According to a report published by Bulgarian news outlet Flagman, Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov announced that he had reached an official agreement with Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport, Georgi Peev, to allocate a designated area within the port for the project. The proposed site is located near the Magazia 7 building, on land previously used for logistical warehouses. The decision marks a change from the municipality’s original plans, which initially considered Troykata Square in the city centre, followed by an alternative location near the Pantheon in Burgas’s Sea Garden.

Accessibility Is a Top Priority

According to Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, accessibility was a top priority and the main consideration behind the decision to choose the port area. The new location occupies a strategically important position, offering direct connections to the city centre, Burgas Central Railway Station, the South Bus Station and the Sea Station. This advantage will allow thousands of tourists to reach EuroVillage easily and quickly from wherever they choose to stay, while also avoiding the need to close major city squares or disrupt Burgas’s regular public transport services.

prepare the site to accommodate tens of thousands of visitors, Bulgaria’s transport minister has promised that the state will begin clearing and preparing the area, which was previously occupied by old warehouses, in the near future. Under the plan, the site will be renovated and fully adapted to meet the international requirements and standards necessary for hosting Eurovision events.

As preparations progress, the proposed location will be officially presented to representatives of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), whose approval is still required before the plans can be finalised. Meanwhile, production and planning teams are working on the visual concept and design of the festival site. The final plans will be unveiled to the public once the model has been completed.

More Flights to Burgas!

Flights were another key topic discussed during the meeting between the mayor and the transport minister, as air travel remains one of the most pressing concerns for fans from around the world planning to attend the contest. Nikolov said he had received an official commitment of government support for discussions with international airlines and Bulgaria’s national airline, with the aim of increasing the number of flights to Burgas Airport ahead of Eurovision in May.

Burgas, Host City of Eurovision 2027

Burgas won the bid to host next year’s contest, beating the proposal submitted by Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia. This will be the first time Bulgaria hosts Eurovision, following the historic victory of singer DARA at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, Austria, last May.

Alongside the announcement of the host city, the dates for the contest were also revealed:

  • First Semi-Final: May 11th (Tuesday)

  • Second Semi-Final: May 13th (Thursday)

  • Grand Final: May 15th (Saturday)

The selected host arena can accommodate approximately 15,000 spectators during music events. Following renovation work, the venue is expected to be adapted to Eurovision’s requirements and equipped to welcome large audiences.

According to a poll conducted on the EuroMix website, 67.62% of respondents selected Sofia as the most suitable city to host the competition. However, it appears that the European Broadcasting Union and BNT did not agree with the EuroMix audience’s choice, believing instead that Burgas possesses the appropriate infrastructure to host the contest.

For Burgas, this will be the city’s first time hosting a Eurovision event. Sofia previously hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. The selected venue, Arena Burgas, has a capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators for music events. Unlike the previous edition, the host city is not the capital of the winning country.

Bulgaria in Eurovision 2026

“Bangaranga” is the song performed by the singer DARA, which represented Bulgaria in Vienna, Austria. DARA won the contest and got 516 points in the final. The song was written and composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos and Cristian Tarcea. While this is the performer’s first Eurovision entry, it marks the 15th song in the contest for composer Dimitris Kontopoulos. The song is performed entirely in English.

Eurovision 2027: The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Bulgaria, following the country’s historic win with the song “BAGARANGA” performed by DARA. This will be the first time the contest is hosted in Bulgaria.
