ERT confirms Greece will select its Eurovision 2027 entry on February 13th in Thessaloniki, moving the national final outside Athens.
Preparations for Eurovision 2027 in Burgas are gathering momentum, and the date on which Greece will select its representative and song for the contest has now been revealed. The final of the local national selection will take place on February 13th. It was also revealed that the event will be held at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, which was designated by the Mayor of Thessaloniki as the leading choice for hosting the broadcast. The main hall within the complex, “M1”, seats approximately 1,400 people and will host the television production. This move marks a new chapter in the history of Greek national selections, as Greece chooses to move the focus of the selection outside the borders of the capital city, Athens.
According to an exclusive report by the Greek Eurovision website “Eurovisionfun”, which relies on information from the Thessaloniki Concert Hall organization and the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the final of the Greek national selection, “Sing for Greece 2027”, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 13th, 2027.
Behind the scenes of the date selection
The event schedule of the concert hall for the month of February provides the complete explanation for choosing the 13th. On the weekend between February 20th and 21st, the venue will stage the production “Swan Lake” by the Hungarian National Ballet from Budapest. The need for extended time for stage setup and production rehearsals for the national selection completely ruled out the weekends of February 20th-21st and February 27th-28th. After ruling out the later dates in the month, the weekends of February 6th-7th and February 13th-14th remained on the table. According to information received from municipal sources, it was definitively decided that Saturday, February 13th, is the date chosen to hold the contest.
Third consecutive year for the successful format outside the capital

This will be the third consecutive year in which the Greek national broadcaster, ERT, produces the “Sing for Greece” format. Over the past two years, the national selection has attracted immense interest and recorded particularly high television rating figures in traditional television broadcasts, alongside impressive viewership numbers on the streaming platform ERTFLIX.
The decision to move the mega-production to Thessaloniki reflects ERT’s commitment to decentralizing major cultural and entertainment events across the entire country, bringing music closer to audiences outside Athens and strengthening the connection with the periphery.
Semi-final stage decided solely by the public: How the format will work
During the 2027 season, up to 20 songs are expected to compete, divided between two semi-finals. Out of these, only 12 songs will qualify for the grand final. This represents a slight reduction in the number of participants compared to the 2026 national selection, when 28 songs competed across two semi-finals before singer **Akylas** was selected with the song “Ferto” (in English: “Give”).
The decision in the semi-finals will be determined solely by the home audience (Televote 100%), without intervention from a judging panel. In the grand final broadcast, however, the voting mechanism will change: the identity of the winning song and Greece’s representative for Eurovision in Bulgaria will be determined through a weighted combination of public votes and jury points.
This coming February, Thessaloniki will become the central meeting point of the Greek music industry, with an event expected to provide unforgettable moments and officially mark the beginning of Greece’s journey toward the Eurovision stage in Burgas.
