Serbia Eurovision

RTS officially confirms Serbia’s participation in Eurovision 2027, ending withdrawal rumors and sparking new speculation about an internal selection process.

After a prolonged silence, the Serbian national broadcaster RTS confirmed its participation in the Eurovision 2027 song contest, which will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria. Serbia is the 34th country to confirm its participation in the competition, despite a recent wave of concern regarding a possible withdrawal. Among the countries that have already confirmed their participation are Australia, Denmark, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands.

In recent weeks, rumors circulated regarding a potential Serbian withdrawal due to the lack of information about the local Eurovision selection process, as details are typically revealed by September at the latest. Additionally, a change in the management of RTS raised further doubts about the country’s continued participation in the contest.

In recent months, Manja Grčić was appointed as the new CEO of the network. Following this move, speculation arose among Serbian media and fans that a new approach toward Eurovision might be adopted under her leadership, with withdrawal even suggested as a possibility. However, RTS clarified to the “ESC kompakt” website that it officially confirms its participation in the upcoming competition in Burgas.

A Potential Shift in the Serbian Selection Method

Currently, the national broadcaster is maintaining secrecy regarding how the representative song will be chosen, as well as any possible dates. Concurrently, media outlets in Serbia assess that the familiar local selection, “Pesma za Evroviziju”, will not be utilized to select the Eurovision representative for the coming year.

Theoretically, holding a national final remains a logical possibility, although it is now more likely that the representative and song will be chosen through an internal selection process. This shift is anticipated because the national broadcaster has only a few days left to open the song submission phase if a televised selection is to take place.

Fans Petition for Jelena Karleuša

A massive campaign has emerged among fans in recent days, with a petition gathering over 50,000 signatures calling for the major star Jelena Karleuša to represent the country in Burgas. The singer previously took part in the Serbian Eurovision selection in 2004, and her name has been frequently linked to the contest over the years. She recently expressed her desire to participate in Eurovision once again, and according to reports, she already has a suitable song ready. For now, fans will have to wait and see what the future holds.
