Selection Committee and Criteria

The Austrian representative was chosen by a committee comprising local Austrian experts and international specialists. Among the decision-makers is Peter Schreiber, who collaborates with ORF. Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, ORF’s program director, previously stated she was looking for something “with a bit of local dialect”. It was reported in July that Eberhard Forcher would again serve as an advisor alongside Schreiber for the Austrian broadcaster. Additionally, Cesár Sampson, Austria’s representative and third-place winner at Eurovision 2018, would serve as an additional advisor.

Austria’s internal selection process included several stages, incorporating opinions from audience representatives and experts in music and Eurovision. There are several fixed rules that candidates must adhere to:

  • The Eurovision song cannot be performed live or published before September 1st, 2024.
  • The song must not exceed 3 minutes in length.
  • The song must be original and not contain samples (excerpts from other songs).
