Greece’s participation in Eurovision 2025 remains uncertain as the Greek national broadcaster postpones its decision until mid-September. This delay is primarily due to impending structural changes within the Greek national broadcaster (ERT).

While artists like Shaya, Josephine, and Evangelia have already expressed their interest in representing Greece next year, ERT has yet to confirm its participation in Eurovision 2025. The main reason for this hesitation is the anticipated restructuring of ERT’s board of directors, scheduled for mid-September.

In contrast to neighboring Cyprus, which has already selected a song and artist with plans to announce their representative in early September, Greece has taken a more cautious approach. Initially, ERT stated that Eurovision was not on its agenda, focusing instead on broadcasting the Euro and Olympic Games. However, as the Eurovision season approaches, critical structural changes within the broadcaster are expected to influence the decision regarding participation.

According to the Greek Eurovision website Eurovisionfun, no decisions have been made regarding Eurovision – neither artists who submitted songs to the broadcaster have been considered, nor has a selection format (internal selection or national final) been chosen. ERT’s president, Konstantinos Zoulas, along with two other board members, is set to conclude his term on September 16. The broadcaster is currently searching for an interim president to make crucial decisions about Greece’s participation in Eurovision 2025.

Although Greece has not yet confirmed its participation, the country is expected to focus on two main objectives if it does compete: firstly, returning to the top 10, a feat it narrowly missed in the previous year, and secondly, increasing Eurovision’s popularity among the Greek public.

Greece in Eurovision 2024

“Zari” is the title of the song performed by singer Marina Satti, who was selected through an internal selection process by the Greek national broadcaster. Greece qualified for the final after placing fifth in the second semi-final with 86 points, and in the grand final, they finished in 11th place with 126 points.

Eurovision 2025: This will mark Greece’s 45th participation in Eurovision. Greece joined the competition in 1974 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2005 when singer Helena Paparizou won first place with the song “My Number One”.
