The Greek national broadcaster is positively considering holding a national final to select the song for the upcoming contest in Basel. Although the final decision has not yet been made, it is expected to be reached within the next two weeks.

Greece is moving forward with plans for the new television season following changes in the management of the Greek national broadcaster ERT and confirmation of their Eurovision participation. One of the key issues at hand is the selection method for Greece’s Eurovision entry, with ERT strongly leaning towards holding an open national final.

Greece’s Eurovision Selection Process

The last open national final in Greece took place in 2003. ERT management, aiming to maximize both television ratings and commercial success from the Eurovision project, is favoring the idea of a national final. This decision is partly influenced by the numerous artists who have expressed interest in representing Greece at the contest.

Public involvement is likely to be a significant component, as Greek audiences have long demanded a say in the selection process, similar to most European countries. Record labels are already preparing for this anticipated national final, with all labels expected to submit multiple candidates.

Timeline for Official Announcements

ERT is set to present some of its new programs on September 18th, with official announcements about the Eurovision selection process expected by the end of the month. Barring any economic, technical, or procedural obstacles, Greece is on track to hold its first open national final in 22 years.

Greece in Eurovision 2024

“Zari” is the title of the song performed by singer Marina Satti, who was selected through an internal selection process by the Greek national broadcaster. Greece qualified for the final after placing fifth in the second semi-final with 86 points, and in the grand final, they finished in 11th place with 126 points.

Eurovision 2025: This will mark Greece’s 45th participation in Eurovision. Greece joined the competition in 1974 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2005 when singer Helena Paparizou won first place with the song “My Number One”.
