The Luxembourgish national broadcaster RTL announces that it will hold the Eurovision national final “Luxembourg Song Contest 2025” on January 25.

The Luxembourgish broadcaster RTL announced today (Wednesday) that the national final “Luxembourg Song Contest” will take place on January 25 at the Rockhal concert hall in Esch-Sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. This is the same venue that hosted the 2024 national final.

Luxembourg’s Eurovision Journey Continues

Following their successful return to Eurovision in Malmö, Sweden, with singer Tali, Luxembourg has confirmed their participation for the second consecutive year. This comes after a 30-year absence from the contest. The date for selecting the Luxembourgish representative for Basel has now been set for January 25, 2025.

Format of Luxembourg Song Contest 2025

The second edition of the “Luxembourg Song Contest” will follow last year’s format, where contestants perform live in front of an audience and compete for votes from both public and the jury. The winner will secure the ticket to represent Luxembourg in Basel. Ticket sales for the event will begin towards the end of 2024.

Registration for the national final is now open and will close on October 6, 2024. A professional jury will be responsible for selecting the competing songs. Participation Requirements.

RTL has published several requirements for potential participants:

  • Contestants must be at least 16 years old by January 1, 2025.
  • Participants must be available between November 2024 and May 2025.
  • Contestants must demonstrate singing abilities and confidence on large stages.
  • Live performances are mandatory, with no pre-recorded vocals allowed.
  • Participants must have Luxembourgish citizenship, or have resided in the country for at least three consecutive years. A contestant without local citizenship who does not meet these conditions must have a cultural and proven connection to the Luxembourgish music scene. In the case of a duo or band – at least one artist among them must meet the conditions.
  • Each contestant may submit up to five songs.
  • Songs can be in any language, with no requirement for Luxembourgish or other national languages.

Interested singers can submit their songs through the Luxembourgish broadcaster’s website – Click here!

Changes from Previous Year

Unlike last year, when songwriters could submit entries without a performer, this year only performing artists can submit completed songs for the competition. This change follows the success of Tali, who performed a song initially submitted without a specific artist in mind.
