İctimai TV, Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster, announced that 154 songs were submitted for the country’s Eurovision 2025 selection process. Among the songwriters is Azerbaijan’s representative from Eurovision 2024.

Following the participation confirmation and the closure of the submission window for the national selection, The Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster ITV reveals some data regarding the submitted songs.

National Broadcaster Reveals Increase in Local Songwriters

Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster İTV has announced that 154 songs have been submitted for consideration to represent the country at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. This marks a decrease of 60 entries compared to last year’s selection process.

Despite the lower number of overall submissions, İTV expressed satisfaction with a notable increase in entries from local artists and composers. 49% of the submitted songs were created by Azerbaijani songwriters, up from 43% in the previous year.

The submitted entries are currently under review. A professional committee from the broadcaster will evaluate the songs and narrow down the list to select Azerbaijan’s representative for Eurovision 2025, following a similar process to last year when Fahree and Ilkin Dovlatov were chosen.

Former Representative Returns as Songwriter

While the selection process is just beginning, one familiar name has already emerged. Fahree, who represented Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2024, announced his participation in the 2025 selection process as a songwriter. He revealed on Instagram that he has written two songs for “very talented performers” in the competition.

Azerbaijan has participated in Eurovision since 2008, winning once in 2011 with Ell & Nikki’s “Running Scared”. The country failed to qualify for the final in 2024 for the second consecutive year, finishing 14th in the first semi-final with “Özünlə apar” by Fahree and Ilkin Dovlatov.

As of now, no further details have been released regarding when Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2025 representative will be announced.

Azerbaijan’s entry for Eurovision 2024 was “Özünlə apar” (English: “Take It With You”), performed by the duo Fahree featuring Ilkin Dovlatov. “Özünlə apar” finished 14th in the first semi-final, scoring only 11 points.

This marks the second consecutive year that Azerbaijan has failed to qualify for the Eurovision final.
