The initial stage of Luxembourg’s Eurovision selection has concluded, with around 60 contestants applying to represent the duchy, which returned to the competition last year after a 31-year absence.

The Luxembourg national broadcaster, RTL, confirmed today that approximately 60 artists have submitted one or more songs for Luxembourg’s Eurovision national selection, “Luxembourg Song Contest.” This marks a decrease from last year when about 100 artists applied, resulting in a reduction of 40 contestants for the current year.

RTL will invite selected artists from those who submitted their candidacy to auditions in front of an international panel of judges. These auditions will take place in November. Artists who successfully complete the audition stage will participate in Luxembourg’s national selection, scheduled for January 25, 2025.

RTL confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest just a few days after the conclusion of the competition held in Malmö. Tali finished 14th at Eurovision with the song “Fighter.” Registration for the Luxembourg national selection opened in July and closed on October 6.

The camp provided songwriters with the opportunity to collaborate with other artists to write songs for Eurovision, including well-known composers who have previously succeeded in the contest. Among the participants were:

  • Pete Barringer, who has written three Eurovision songs, including the Maltese entry “Je Me Casse,” which reached seventh place in Eurovision 2021.
  • Linda Dale, the songwriter of “The Code,” which won the last Eurovision, also took part in the writing camp, alongside Abi Jones, who wrote “Lights Off” representing the Czech Republic in 2022.

Additionally, several artists who participated in Luxembourg’s 2024 national final joined the camp, including runner-up Krick, along with Naomi Ayé, Edsun, CHAiLD, and Joel Marques. They were joined by a diverse group of well-known Luxembourg artists.
