The Eurovision songwriting camp in Luxembourg recently took place, and the search for participants in the national final has begun. What happened at the camp, and who were the notable artists involved?
Luxembourg confirmed their participation in Eurovision 2025 back in May, and the national broadcaster has already announced that the Luxembourgish representative for Eurovision will be chosen on January 25. As we previously reported, a songwriting camp for Eurovision 2025 was held from September 27-30, organized by the Luxembourg Artists’ Association in collaboration with the Luxembourg Arts Council, at the Rockhal venue in Esch-sur-Alzette, the same venue that hosted Luxembourg’s national selection in 2024.
International Collaboration: Eurovision Veterans Join Local Talent
During the camp, participating artists were given the opportunity to collaborate with other artists to write songs for Eurovision, including well-known songwriters who have previously succeeded in Eurovision. Among the participants:
Pete Barringer, who has written three songs for Eurovision, including the Maltese entry “Je Me Casse,” which reached seventh place in Eurovision 2021.
Linda Dale, the songwriter of “The Code” which won the last Eurovision, also took part in the writing camp, alongside Abi Jones, who wrote “Lights Off” representing the Czech Republic in 2022.
In addition, several artists who participated in Luxembourg’s national selection in 2024 took part in the writing camp, including second-place winner Krick, alongside Naomi Ayé, Edsun, CHAiLD, and Joel Marques. A wide variety of well-known Luxembourgish artists participated alongside them.
The writing camp was organized by Greig Watts – a songwriter, music producer, and publisher known also for organizing songwriting camps for Eurovision. Watts organized the first writing camp in the Netherlands in 2015.
Intensive Creativity: Eight Hours to Craft a Eurovision Hit
Each artist participated in writing and producing a song for Eurovision in the short time allotted to participants. Only eight hours were allocated for creating the songs. To achieve this, they were assisted by international music producers and songwriters who were present at the camp with them. The artists will be able to submit their songs for the local national final – “Luxembourg Song Contest 2025,” through which the Luxembourgish representative for Eurovision 2025 will be chosen. However, there is no guarantee that their songs will indeed be selected to participate in the national final itself.
Luxembourg Song Contest 2025: Submission Guidelines and Requirements
The registration for the local national selection is now open and will close tomorrow – October 6, 2024. A professional jury will be responsible for selecting the songs that will compete in the national final.
To participate in the national final, the national broadcaster has published several requirements:
- Participants must be 16 years old by January 1, 2025.
- Participants must be flexible and available between November 2024 and May 2025.
- Participants must demonstrate singing abilities and confidence on large stages.
- Artists must sing live on the national selection stage, without recordings.
- Participants must have Luxembourgish citizenship or have resided in the country for at least three consecutive years. A contestant without local citizenship who does not meet the conditions must have a cultural and proven connection to the Luxembourgish music scene. In the case of a duo or band – at least one artist must meet the conditions.
- The national broadcaster allows each contestant to submit up to five songs to the committee.
- Submitted songs can be in any language, and there is no requirement for songs in Luxembourgish or other national languages (German and French).
Songs can be submitted to the committee through the official website – click here!
Unlike last year, when songwriters could submit songs to the competition even if they had not yet chosen a performing singer, this year only performing artists will be able to submit a ready-made song for the competition. We remind you that Tali, who represented Luxembourg last year, performed a song that was submitted by its songwriters without a performing artist – and only after its submission was it adapted to the singer by the production.
What You Need to Know About “Luxembourg Song Contest”
The Luxembourgish national selection “Luxembourg Song Contest” will take place on January 25 at the Rockhal concert hall in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. This is the same venue that hosted Luxembourg’s national selection in 2024. The second edition of the national selection will maintain the format from last year, where contestants performed live in front of an audience and competed for the votes of judges (50%) and the audience (50%) to determine which artist will win the coveted ticket to Basel.
Ticket sales for the big event will open towards the end of 2024.
Luxembourg in Eurovision 2024
“Fighter” is the name of the song performed by Tali, who was chosen to represent Luxembourg after winning the local Eurovision pre-selection. Luxembourg advanced to the granb final after securing fifth place in the first semi-final with 117 points, and in the grand final, they finished in 13th place with 103 points.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Luxembourg’s 39th participation in Eurovision. Luxembourg joined the competition in 1956, was one of the seven founding countries, and has won it five times over the years. Luxembourg’s last victory was at Eurovision 1983 with the song “Si la vie est cadeau” performed by singer Corinne Hermès. In 2024, Luxembourg returned to the competition after a 31-year absence.
