Anouk, the famous Dutch singer and the country’s representative at Eurovision 2013, appeared on a local evening show and declared that she has submitted a song for internal selection, with which she wishes to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision 2025 competition. Is the former representative on her way to Basel?

Anouk’s Eurovision Ambitions

Anouk, the Netherlands’ representative at Eurovision 2013, has confirmed her intention to return to the competition in 2025. During an appearance on RTL Boulevard, she revealed that she has submitted a song for consideration. Referencing her 2013 entry “Birds”, Anouk joked, “Many people can breathe a sigh of relief because it’s not a depressing ballad. No birds falling from the roof. It’s quite a hard song.”Despite submitting a song for the Basel competition, Anouk remains cautiously optimistic about the selection process. She stated, “As a songwriter, I also think the best song should win. I understand when people say: she’s already been there.” Anouk shared that this isn’t the first time she’s been rejected by AVROTROS, having previously submitted a song in collaboration with rapper Latifah.

Previous Eurovision Attempts

This isn’t the first time Anouk has publicly expressed her desire to return to the Eurovision stage. Last year, she mentioned in an interview with local media that she was interested in participating again, but it wasn’t possible due to the proximity to her new album release. After missing the opportunity for the recent Eurovision in Malmö, Sweden, she announced during her performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in June that she had written a new song she believed was perfect for Eurovision.

Anouk

Anouk represented the Netherlands at Eurovision 2013 with “Birds“, successfully reaching the final after eight consecutive years of the country failing in the semi-finals. She ultimately secured a respectable ninth place.

Netherlands in Eurovision 2024

“Europapa” is the name of the song performed by Joost Klein in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2024. The Netherlands qualified for the grand final after securing second place in the second semi-final with 182 points. However, the singer was disqualified and did not participate in the grand final due to a violent incident involving him and a camerawoman from the Swedish Eurovision production team.

This marks the second consecutive time that the Netherlands has not competed in the grand final and the first time in the contest’s history that a participant was disqualified just hours before the grand final.

Eurovision 2025: This will be the Netherlands’ 65th participation in Eurovision. The Netherlands joined the competition in 1956, was one of the seven founding countries, and has won it five times over the years. The Netherlands’ last victory was at Eurovision 2019 with the song “Arcade” performed by singer Duncan Laurence.
