Unveiling the Struggle Behind the Success
“Although Eurovision was something I’ll remember as long as I breathe, and despite it being the performance that brought me to unimaginable heights, I often felt like I didn’t belong there,” Baby Lasagna wrote in his Instagram post. “Of course, such a feeling of alienation can be a bit difficult and confusing, and ‘Catch Me If You Can’ is exactly about that. It’s about being an outsider but at the same time feeling like it’s yours! It’s about doing things your way and trusting your vision regardless of prevailing opinion, popular taste, or expectations. It’s about being basic in a society that tries so hard not to be basic – which makes it basic.”
These feelings, which Baby Lasagna is sharing for the first time, have left the audience shocked. This is particularly surprising given that he was one of the most beloved singers at Eurovision 2024, who, despite not winning, managed to sweep the public vote decisively. Baby Lasagna, the stage name of Marko Purišić, shared a few months ago in an interview his perspective on the events and controversies that occurred behind the scenes at Eurovision 2024. Subsequently, he published a clarification in his Instagram story addressing the uproar caused by his words. It’s possible that the negative events at Eurovision contributed to these feelings, which according to many artists, posed a significant challenge for quite a few representatives at Eurovision 2024.
New Horizons and Creative Challenges
In the continuation of the interview where he talked about feelings of not belonging at Eurovision, he elaborated on his new song set to be released on Friday. He shared the intimidating feelings that accompanied allowing another director, who isn’t his wife Elizabeta, to direct the music video and lead the creative process of the song. This is the first time Baby Lasagna has worked with a director other than his wife, who directed his previous music videos and was a key partner in production. It’s worth noting that Baby Lasagna and his wife got married only recently. The Croatian singer did not elaborate further or share whether there were specific events or things that caused his difficult feelings about Eurovision. However, it’s certainly strange and different to hear such experiences from one of the most beloved artists in Eurovision history.
