The Greek national broadcaster ERT has published its participation fee for Eurovision 2025, amounting to approximately 143,000 euros.

The Greek national broadcaster ERT yesterday published an official document on their website, stating that the network’s participation fee for Eurovision 2025 will stand at just over 143,000 euros. While this is a significant amount, it represents good news for Greece and other participating national broadcasters in the competition.

According to reports, last year the Greek national broadcaster paid the European Broadcasting Union over 176,000 euros for their participation in the contest in Malmö. This represents a significant decrease of about 33,000 euros from the previous year. In recent years, there has been an increase in participation fees for each country, which has led to the withdrawal of several countries from the competition, such as Bulgaria and North Macedonia.

Participation fees are determined, among other factors, based on the size of the participating country and its economic situation. Following Russia’s suspension from the Eurovision Song Contest ahead of Eurovision 2022, one of the largest and most established countries in Europe, the remaining participating countries had to share the burden left by Russia, one of the reasons why participation fees have been on an upward trend for two consecutive years.

The Greek announcement of a decrease in participation fees is good news for the countries competing in the contest. With Montenegro’s return, it’s possible that the upward trend in participation fees will stop, which has already been breaking records in recent years anyway.

Eurovision participation fees are used by the European Broadcasting Union to partially but necessarily cover the costs of producing the competition. The rest of the costs are covered by the host country, composed of the broadcasting body and the local government, as well as private sponsors.
