Erik Struve Hansen, head of the Danish Eurovision delegation and producer of the national selection, revealed that eight songs will compete for the coveted opportunity to represent Denmark in the upcoming Eurovision. The contestants will be announced on February 6th. Additionally, he disclosed that one of the eight contestants in the national selection is a former representative of the country, without revealing their identity.

According to Danish sources, the former Danish representative who will compete in the national selection for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, is none other than Tim Schou. Schou was a member of the band “A Friend In London,” which represented Denmark in Eurovision 2011 with the song “New Tomorrow,” finishing in fifth place. The official list of contestants, as mentioned, will be published in about a month.

Tim Schou’s Eurovision Journey

Schou is no stranger to the Eurovision world. After finishing fifth in Eurovision 2011 with his band, he wrote several songs over the years for various national selections, including those in Denmark, Germany, and Sweden. Recently, he also wrote one of the songs that competed in DMGP 2024, “Sign Here,” performed by Stella, which did not make it past the first round of the competition.

Voting System and Selection Process

The voting system for the Danish national final will remain similar to the one used in 2024. Here’s how it will work:

1. Eight contestants will participate in the initial round.
2. Three finalists will be chosen by the Danish public through SMS voting.
3. In the final round, the winner will be determined by a combination of jury votes (50%) and public votes (50%).
4. The contestant with the highest percentage of votes will earn the right to represent Denmark at Eurovision 2025, performing for millions of viewers.

Denmark’s Eurovision Journey: Seeking a Return to the Final

Following the format from 2024, this year’s Danish selection will once again feature a former Eurovision representative attempting to elevate the country back to the Eurovision final. It’s worth noting that Denmark last appeared in the Eurovision final in 2019 in Tel Aviv, where Leonora secured 12th place with her song “Love Is Forever.”

Since then, Denmark has experienced a string of four consecutive failures to qualify for the Eurovision final. The question now is whether this former representative will be able to break the streak and return Denmark to the grand final of Eurovision.
