The Danish national broadcaster DR announced that the Eurovision national selection artists will be revealed on February 6, including a former Eurovision contestant.

Denmark’s national broadcaster has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, to be held in Basel, Switzerland. The country will select its representative through the long-standing national selection show “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix,” scheduled for March 1, 2025. Erik Struve Hansen, Head of Delegation for Denmark and producer of the national selection, revealed that eight songs will compete for the coveted spot to represent Denmark in the upcoming Eurovision.

The contestants for the national selection will be unveiled on February 6. Interestingly, four of the eight competing songs have already been chosen, and among them is a former Eurovision contestant. The identity of this returning artist remains undisclosed at this time.

Voting System and Selection Process

The voting system for the Danish national final will remain similar to the one used in 2024. Here’s how it will work:

  1. Eight contestants will participate in the initial round.
  2. Three finalists will be chosen by the Danish public through SMS voting.
  3. In the final round, the winner will be determined by a combination of jury votes (50%) and public votes (50%).
  4. The contestant with the highest percentage of votes will earn the right to represent Denmark at Eurovision 2025, performing for millions of viewers.

Denmark’s Eurovision Journey: Seeking a Return to the Final

Following the format from 2024, this year’s Danish selection will once again feature a former Eurovision representative attempting to elevate the country back to the Eurovision final. It’s worth noting that Denmark last appeared in the Eurovision final in 2019 in Tel Aviv, where Leonora secured 12th place with her song “Love Is Forever.”

Since then, Denmark has experienced a string of four consecutive failures to qualify for the Eurovision final. The question now is whether this former representative will be able to break the streak and return Denmark to the grand final of Eurovision.

As the competition approaches, all eyes will be on the Danish selection process to see who will carry the nation’s hopes in Basel, Switzerland, for Eurovision 2025.

Denmark in Eurovision 2024

Saba, who won the Danish national selection, represented Denmark with her song “Sand”. Denmark failed to qualify for the Eurovision final, finishing 12th in the second semi-final with 36 points. This marks the fourth consecutive time that Denmark has not advanced to the Eurovision final, a new negative record for Denmark since the introduction of the semi-final system.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Denmark’s 53rd participation in Eurovision. Denmark joined the competition in 1957 and has won it three times over the years. Denmark’s last victory was in Eurovision 2013 with the song “Only Teardrops” performed by singer Emmelie de Forest.
