The Danish national broadcaster, DR, has unveiled the eight artists and songs competing in “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025”. Among the contestants is Denmark’s Eurovision 2011 representative.

The Danish national broadcaster, DR, revealed today during a press conference the eight artists and their songs for the Danish Eurovision national selection, “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025”. The national final will take place on March 1 at the Jyske Bank Boxen stadium in Herning, where the representative and song for Eurovision 2025 will be chosen. The show is expected to be hosted again by television host and author Sara Bro, and journalist and author Stephanie Surrugue.

During a special broadcast on February 6, all contestants will perform their songs live in the Danish national broadcaster’s studio. The voting system for the Danish Eurovision national selection will remain similar to the one used in 2024 – eight contestants will take part in the competition, with three of them advancing to the second round after being chosen by the Danish audience through SMS voting. Subsequently, the results will be determined by a combination of jury voting (50%) and public voting (50%), with the contestant receiving the highest percentage of votes among the three finalists representing Denmark at Eurovision 2025 and performing in front of millions of viewers.

Notable Participants and Songwriters

Among the prominent contestants in the national selection is Tim Schou, who has previously represented Denmark and competed in Eurovision 2011. Schou is a member of the band A Friend In London, which represented Denmark at Eurovision 2011 with the song “New Tomorrow,” and finished fifth. He has also written several songs over the years for various Eurovision national selections, including the Danish, German, and Swedish selections. Recently, he also wrote one of the songs that competed in the Danish Eurovision national selection for 2024, “Sign Here,” performed by singer Stella, who did not make it past the first round. This time, Schou is competing without his band and will perform the song Proud” in hopes of representing Denmark at Eurovision 2025 in Basel.

Among the songwriters and producers of the songs, several familiar names can be seen. Among the writers of Max Ulver’s song, we can find Remee, who has written several Eurovision-related songs, including “Disappear” performed by No Angels, which represented Germany at Eurovision 2008. Additionally, he wrote three songs that represented Denmark in 2012, 2015, and 2022, two of which did not pass the semi-final, and one reached the final and ranked 23rd.




Denmark in Eurovision 2024

Saba, who won the Danish national selection, represented Denmark with her song “Sand”. Denmark failed to qualify for the Eurovision final, finishing 12th in the second semi-final with 36 points. This marks the fourth consecutive time that Denmark has not advanced to the Eurovision final, a new negative record for Denmark since the introduction of the semi-final system.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Denmark’s 53rd participation in Eurovision. Denmark joined the competition in 1957 and has won it three times over the years. Denmark’s last victory was in Eurovision 2013 with the song “Only Teardrops” performed by singer Emmelie de Forest.
