San Marino in Eurovision 2025: The third semi-final of “San Marino Song Contest 2025” was postponed, leaving viewers in shock. What happened in San Marino?

San Marino left viewers feeling deeply disappointed tonight. The San Marino national selection contest – “San Marino Song Contest 2025,” which was supposed to take place this evening with the third semi-final at 22:00 CET, was not broadcast as planned. This is not the first time that the schedule of the San Marino national selection contest has encountered delays and issues.

Initially, the national broadcaster of San Marino, San Marino RTV, confirmed that the third semi-final would be postponed to tomorrow at 22:00 CET, with the fourth semi-final airing immediately afterward, until approximately 02:30 CET. This unexpected change caused great disappointment and a deep sense of disregard among viewers and fans. It is important to note that no official reason for the postponement was provided, and instead of the pre-recorded and edited show, a sports program was broadcast, followed by a documentary about African migrants.

These events were not given the proper attention by the organizing team, and Eurovision fans did not hold back their criticism regarding the sloppy management. The issue is not only the broadcast delay, but also several troubling incidents related to the local Eurovision selection. Since the competition began this year, there have been numerous withdrawals of prominent contestants and repeated delays of the selection dates. All of this raises doubts about San Marino’s ability to produce a worthy and high-quality competition.

In addition, there is a sense of mistrust regarding the level of this year’s contestants. “San Marino Song Contest 2025” has failed to present high-caliber candidates, yet the judging panel decided to award tickets to the grand final to contestants who did not appear suitable in most cases. Many are troubled by the conclusions being drawn and wonder how this format fails to deliver a fair and impressive competition.

While San Marino tries to maintain its image as a country aspiring for success in the Eurovision competition, given all the scandals this year, there is concern that the country could be perceived as unable to meet its commitments to the competition. Even the fans, who sometimes express strong loyalty, find themselves questioning whether San Marino is even interested in investing in Eurovision as expected from a country participating in such important events.

San Marino Song Contest – All the Details

The San Marino Eurovision national selection will be held on March 8 under the new name “San Marino Song Contest”. The first stage of San Marino’s preliminary includes registration for the contest and the “casting” stage, in which 80 contestants will be chosen to proceed to the Semi-Finals spread across seven regular Semi-Finals, an additional Semi-Final for local artists, and a “second chance” Semi-Final. From the Semi-Finals, 11 artists will advance to the final, with the winner chosen by a panel that includes five judges.

This year, the organizers decided to introduce changes to the contest format, including a new voting system that ensures greater transparency and objectivity. Massimo Bonelli, the artistic director, expressed a desire to improve credibility and transparency in the voting process. According to the new plan, judges will be required to publish their votes publicly, a practice not previously done. Additionally, Bonelli will have the opportunity to award up to 10 bonus points to any artist he feels deserves it, while maintaining equal opportunities for all competitors.

The semi-finals are hosted by Flora Canto and Francesco Facchinetti and are broadcast live on the public channel RTV. A total of 20 artists will compete for the honor of representing San Marino at Eurovision 2025. Among them, nine prequalified “Big Artists” will be revealed on February 25, while the remaining 11 contestants will be selected through the semi-finals, which run from February 22 to February 28.

The grand finale of the “San Marino Song Contest” was initially scheduled for February 22, was postponed by a day to February 23, and was delayed again to March 8, so it will compete with other countries broadcasting their preliminaries on the same date, like Sweden and Portugal.

San Marino in Eurovision 2024:

“11:11” is the name of the song performed by the band Megara, which represented San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 held in Malmö, Sweden. The band participated in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2024 but did not advance to the grand final, finishing in 14th place in the semi-final with only 16 points, 10 of which came from Spain.

Eurovision 2025: This will be San Marino’s 15th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. San Marino joined the competition in 2008 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2019 when the singer Serhat finished in 19th place with the song “Say Na Na Na” .
