Austria in Eurovision 2025: JJ’s song “Wasted Love” will be unveiled on March 6th! What details is Austria revealing about the song? All the information in the article!
The Austrian national broadcaster, ORF, revealed today during a press conference that the song “Wasted Love”, which will be performed by JJ on the Eurovision 2025 stage in Basel, Switzerland, will be unveiled on Thursday, March 6th! Austria will compete with the song in the first half of the second semi-final, scheduled for May 15th. The Austrian entry will have its premiere on March 6th, during Ö3’s morning show Ö3-Wecker, where JJ is expected to appear as a guest and present the song before its official debut. A day earlier, on March 5th, the song will have its live premiere at a press conference held at the Vienna Opera House.
The Austrian national broadcaster further stated about the song:
“With JJ’s rare singing talent and a performance that combines timeless artistry and contemporary energy, he wants to create the big show moment at Eurovision.”
One of JJ’s songwriters is none other than Teya, Austria’s representative at Eurovision 2023, who, together with Salena, reached 15th place in Liverpool, England, with the song “Who The Hell Is Edgar”. Unlike their song, this time Austria is expected to send a pop opera, a completely different direction from Austria’s entries in recent years.
The Austrian singer, Johannes Pietsch, or in his stage name, JJ, was revealed on January 30th during an Austrian morning show, which has an average of 2.3 million daily listeners and is considered the most successful morning show in Austria. The singer was chosen through an internal selection process, as the country has done every year since 2017. About the song, the singer said: “The song is a surprising drama in itself, almost three minutes of pop opera.”
The Austrian representative was chosen by a committee comprising local Austrian experts and international specialists. Among the decision-makers is Peter Schreiber, who collaborates with ORF. Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, ORF’s program director, previously stated she was looking for something “with a bit of local dialect”. It was reported in July that Eberhard Forcher would again serve as an advisor alongside Schreiber for the Austrian broadcaster. Additionally, Cesár Sampson, Austria’s representative and third-place winner at Eurovision 2018, would serve as an additional advisor.
