Georgia’s silence at Eurovision 2025 sparks concern and speculation among fans. Will they participate, and who will represent them?

The preparations for Eurovision 2025 are gaining momentum, but a significant silence looms over Georgia’s involvement. While many countries have already revealed their representatives and songs for the upcoming competition, Georgia maintains a low profile, raising concerns and questions among Eurovision enthusiasts worldwide.

Despite Georgia being listed as an official participant by the European Broadcasting Union, they have yet to disclose how they will select their representative for Eurovision. With the final song submission deadline to the European Broadcasting Union approaching in about a week and a half, the question arises: Will Georgia participate in Eurovision 2025? And if so, who will represent the country?

Political Complexities and Fan Reactions

The Georgian silence at Eurovision 2025 has not gone unnoticed by the Eurovision fan community. In forums and social media, competition enthusiasts express frustration and impatience with Georgia’s absence from the Eurovision discourse. Many users note that they had almost forgotten Georgia was planning to participate this year, having heard nothing about their preparations.

One of the main concerns among Eurovision fans is the complex political situation in Georgia. The Georgian government has recently passed several laws that have raised significant concerns about Georgia’s democratic future and its relations with the West. Many fear that the political tension in the country could lead to withdrawal from the competition, similar to other countries that have had to leave Eurovision in recent years.

Comparison with Neighboring Countries

In comparison to neighboring countries like Armenia and Azerbaijan, which have already revealed their representatives for Eurovision 2025, Georgia stands out in its absence. While Armenia and Azerbaijan are generating interest and anticipation for Eurovision, Georgia remains behind, shrouded in silence and raising many questions.

Hopes and Rumors

Despite the concerns, some Eurovision fans are trying to remain optimistic. Some hope that Georgia’s silence is hiding a big surprise, and that Georgia will ultimately choose an exceptional act that will surprise everyone. There are even those expecting Georgia to return to its roots and choose a traditional polyphonic ensemble, reflecting the country’s rich musical identity.

One of the more interesting rumors circulating online is that Mariam Shengelia is expected to represent Georgia at Eurovision 2025. Mariam competed in the reality show “Georgian Idol,” through which the Georgian representative for Eurovision 2020 was chosen. However, it’s important to note that this is just a rumor, and its source is unclear. Until an official announcement is made by Georgia, this information should be treated with caution.

Broader Implications

Beyond the question of Georgia’s participation in Eurovision 2025, their silence also sparks discussions about the state of Eurovision in general. Some argue that Eurovision has become a Western European competition only, with countries from Eastern and Central Europe disappearing from the map. This comes after countries such as Moldova, Romania, North Macedonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Belarus, and Russia are no longer participating in the song contest.

Georgia, which joined Eurovision in 2007, has experienced ups and downs in the competition. Their first appearance was impressive, but they haven’t managed to replicate that success since. Despite this, Georgia continues to invest in Eurovision, believing it to be an important tool for promoting its culture and national identity on an international stage.

As we approach the submission deadline for Eurovision 2025 songs in mid-March, the questions remain open. Will Georgia surprise us with an exciting representative? Will they choose an innovative or traditional musical ensemble? Or will they be forced to withdraw from the competition due to political or economic circumstances? Only time will tell.
