The British sci-fi series “Doctor Who” released a trailer for a Eurovision-inspired episode featuring a special guest appearance, set to air amid scheduling challenges between major TV events.
The iconic British series “Doctor Who”, which premiered in the 1960s, follows an alien (“The Doctor”) who travels through time and space to save civilizations. Deeply rooted in British culture, the show frequently incorporates pop culture references and guest appearances. Previous connections to Eurovision have been indirect, but the upcoming 15th season takes a bold leap.
In 2023, David Tennant (reprising his role as the Tenth Doctor) promoted Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, England. However, the new season features Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor, who will accompany his companion Varada Sethu (as Ruby Sunday) to the “Interstellar Song Contest” – a Eurovision-inspired event set in outer space.
A Eurovision-Related Special Guest in The Series?
The trailer reveals Rylan Clark-Neal, a prominent British Eurovision commentator and presenter, making a guest appearance, probably in a Cameo appearance. Clark-Neal hosted Eurovision 2023 semi-final allocation draw in Liverpool, presented the British jury votes in Tel Aviv, Israel, and fronted the UK’s Eurovision natinoal selection shows in 2018 and 2019.
In a statement, Clark-Neal said:
“As a huge fan of Doctor Who, getting the call to join the show was a dream come true. This episode has everything I love: a song contest in space! It’s truly out of this world.”
Scheduling Challenges and Broadcast Plans
The Eurovision-themed episode faces a tight broadcast window on British TV, sandwiched between two major live events: the FA Cup Final and Eurovision 2025.
If the football match runs into extra time or penalties, the episode’s airing could be delayed. While the Eurovision final is fixed as a live broadcast, UK viewers can stream the episode early via BBC iPlayer at 08:00 GMT (United Kingdom’s Time) on the same day. International audiences will access it on Disney+.
Russell T Davies, the show’s writer, is taking a risk by scheduling the episode between two major TV events. He admits it’s a gamble but is willing to take it:
“It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens. Honestly, on that day, it’ll be like, ‘Are we broadcasting or not?’ They really asked me, ‘Do you want to take this risk?’ And I said, ‘This is the sexiest risk I’ve ever heard in my life. Let’s do it!’”

United Kingdom at Eurovision 2025
The song “What The Hell Just Happened?” is the name of the song that will be performed by the girl group Remember Monday, who will represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2025. The group will perform the song in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025 which will take place on May 15th in Basel, Switzerland. Since they represent one of the “Big Five” – they automatically advance to the grand final on May 17th. The song was written by the band members along with Thomas Stengaard, who wrote the winning Eurovision 2013 song “Only Teardrops“, Julie Aagaard who wrote Austria’s songs in 2024 “We Will Rave” (24th place in the grand final) and Malta’s song in 2022, “I Am What I Am” (16th place in the semi-final). The song is performed in English.
The song describes a wild night of partying and mayhem, where the speaker experiences a series of crazy and unexpected events. The song expresses the desire to break free from everyday constraints, experience extreme situations, and feel freedom, even if it involves irresponsible or dangerous behavior.
These days Britain is ranked 14th in the betting tables ahead of Eurovision 2025. Listen to the British song for Eurovision 2025:
