Which Artist Returns to the Eurovision Stage in Basel After 25 Years?

On the official Eurovision Instagram page, it was revealed that the artist performing in one of the interval acts is none other than Eurovision legend Jørgen Olsen, a member of the Olsen Brothers, Denmark’s representatives and winners of Eurovision 2000. The duo was selected to represent Denmark in Eurovision 2000 in Stockholm with the song “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and they won first place in the competition. It is not yet known whether Jørgen will perform in the first semi-final, the second semi-final, or the grand final.

Jørgen Olsen joins a lineup of local artists who will take the stage at the start or during the show nights, including a performance by 45 artists presenting Switzerland’s traditional, modern, and intergenerational music—an act that will open the first semi-final. An impressive list of past Swiss Eurovision representatives has also been revealed, such as Paola Del Medico (Switzerland 1969 and 1980), Peter Reber from the trio Peter, Sue & Marc (Switzerland 1971, 1976, 1979, and 1981), Luca Hänni (Switzerland 2019), and Gjon’s Tears (Switzerland 2020 and 2021). Alongside them, international artists will also perform, including The Roop (Lithuania 2020 and 2021) and Samira Efendi (Azerbaijan 2020 and 2021).

The Olsen Brothers – Who Are They?

Jørgen and Niels Olsen, aged 75 and 71, have been performing together since 1972 and attempted to represent Denmark six times before finally succeeding in Eurovision 2000, where they also won first place. The Olsen Brothers were chosen to represent Denmark in Eurovision 2000 in Stockholm with the song “Fly on the Wings of Love.” The duo made two more attempts to return to the Eurovision stage after their victory.

In 2019, the duo announced the end of their joint musical career after Danish media reported that Niels had been diagnosed with cancer at age 65, with a brain tumor discovered. Upon learning of the illness, the singer confirmed he was ending his musical career. According to reports, the singer stated that his doctors informed him that life expectancy with this serious illness is between two and four years. In the time he has left, he wishes to be with his family.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Switzerland’s 65th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Switzerland joined the competition in 1956, being one of the seven founding countries, and has won three times over the years. Its most recent victory was at the last Eurovision in 2025, with Nemo’s song “The Code.” This win follows Switzerland’s previous victory in 1988 with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi,” performed by international singer Céline Dion.
