Croatia at Eurovision 2025: Marko Bošnjak shares fresh insights about his upcoming performance in Basel, discusses his views on betting odds, and names his “dark horse” for Eurovision 2025.

The Croatian representative for Eurovision 2025, Marko Bošnjak, who will perform the song “Poison Cake” as the 14th act in the first semi-final on May 13th, continues to generate significant buzz among Eurovision fans. Before flying to Basel, Bošnjak appeared on the Croatian TV show “Kod nas doma” (translated as: “At Our Home”), where he shared with viewers the intense preparations leading up to his big performance in Basel. Today (Sunday), the singer took the stage for his first rehearsal at Eurovision.

“Now is the time to show what we’ve prepared”

Right at the beginning, Marko Bošnjak admitted that the excitement is real, but emphasized that after participating in pre-Eurovision events across Europe, he feels more experienced and confident:

“I believe that with all the rehearsals we’ve done and thanks to all the effort we’ve invested, it’s going to be simply amazing. Now is the time to show what we’ve practiced and what we’ve prepared”.

Over recent months, Bošnjak has performed in major European cities, including London, Madrid, and Amsterdam. He did not hide his enthusiasm about the experience:

“It was a phenomenal experience at all three events. I must admit that in Madrid, the fans were the wildest and most loyal, and there truly was a real celebration. But also in Amsterdam and London, you can see that people treat each of us like Eurovision stars. Once you enter this family, it’s probably for life. I hope those people will stay part of my audience and that I’ll have the opportunity after Eurovision to share my music with them in their countries”.

he shared with excitement.

Innovations in the Basel Performance

Bošnjak expressed strong belief that his chosen path-music-is the right one for him:

“I believe everything happens at the right time and for the right reason, and that the universe always keeps something for you. That’s why I believe Basel will be great, because I have a phenomenal team around me who are truly a huge support and know what they’re doing, so I can rely on them”.

He also revealed that the performance in Basel will feature significant innovations not seen before:

“The first is the wardrobe – we’ll be dressed completely differently. The illuminated screens are new and different, and the main prop on stage is no longer that kitchen or something that looks like a kitchen, and the atmosphere is completely different. We still have two more initial rehearsals to bring everything to perfection. I wholeheartedly believe we’ll qualify for the final”.

From Betting Underdog to Potential Surprise

When asked about his less-than-promising position in the betting odds, Bošnjak remained optimistic:

“I truly believe this is an excellent situation and that being in this position is an advantage, because we can show people that we are much more than they expect. Every year there’s a ‘Dark Horse’ that surprises and qualifies even though no one predicted it. I believe we can be exactly that dark horse this year”.

The Challenge of Social Media

Amid all the preparations, Bošnjak revealed his biggest challenge-dealing with social media:

“Only now have I realized how overwhelming it really is and how I don’t have the energy to create content. There are people in the music industry who love making content and that’s their fun part of music. Today, it’s become an inseparable part of music. For me, it doesn’t come naturally. Sometimes I have to convince myself to do it, but it’s very important. Obviously, you have to be present all the time on all social networks. So I try to give my maximum there, but it definitely drains the most energy from me”.

The Enduring Love for Music

When asked if all the surrounding pressure affects him, Bošnjak responded clearly:

“It doesn’t weigh on me because I always knew I wanted to be involved in music. I’ve worked in all kinds of jobs, but in the end, the sweetest are the ‘torments’ of music that come with this profession”.

He added with a smile.

What’s Next for Marko Bošnjak?

In conclusion, Bošnjak shared his expectations for the future:

“I’ll of course be satisfied if we qualify for the final and achieve a respectable result there, but beyond the result itself, I want to share my music with the rest of Europe, to show what I do and who I am to people I wouldn’t usually reach easily. Afterwards, to connect audiences across Europe, to do a small tour in the summer, release an album, and continue my musical journey. Eurovision, in my eyes, is just an amazing and huge start, but also a tremendous push for everything that will come next”.

He concluded with excitement.

Croatia at Eurovision 2025

“Poison Cake” is the song that will be performed by Marko Bošnjak, who will represent Croatia as song number 14 of the first semifinal of Eurovision 2025, taking place on May 13th in Basel, Switzerland. The song was written by the singer along with Bas Wissink, who also wrote “Juno” for the Maltese national selection, Ben Pyne, and Emma Gale, who wrote “Monster” for the Latvian national selection and “Sulale” for the Norwegian national selection. This is the first Eurovision song for these writers. The song is performed in English.

The song describes a story of sweet and dangerous revenge. The lyrics tell of a character who was likely oppressed or exploited and decided to take revenge on those who hurt them by baking a poisoned cake.
