Croatia’s representative at Eurovision 2025 Marko Bošnjak apologizes after outrage over his controversial posts about pro-Israel activist Charlie Kirk’s murder, yet his apology seems far from sincere.
The singer Marko Bošnjak, Croatia’s representative for Eurovision 2025, was forced to publicly apologize after making a highly controversial statement regarding the murder of American pro-Israeli activist Charlie Kirk.
Bošnjak published a social media post stating:
“My recent remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death were insensitive, and I apologize. I realized that expressing political opinions only harms me and my loved ones without changing anyone’s mind. From now on, I would prefer not to comment on political or similar issues, and I ask that you respect my decision to focus solely on music”.
These remarks followed harsh criticism sparked by an earlier post in which Bošnjak seemed to indirectly support Kirk’s murder. One of the statements that enraged many was:
“No one should die because of political opinions, except Charlie Kirk”.
Now attempting to calm tensions, Bošnjak’s apology comes across as neither sincere nor as a reversal of his extreme and dangerous opinions. The statement reads more as a defensive justification than genuine remorse. Whether it was his management who pressured him to delete the inflammatory remarks, or the overwhelming public reaction, what remains certain is that Bušnjak is not alone. Many within the pro-Palestinian camp express similar sentiments, and such rhetoric is both dangerous and deeply troubling.
Croatia at Eurovision 2025
“Poison Cake” was the title of the song performed by Marko Bošnjak in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2025. Croatia failed to qualify for the grand final, breaking the country’s recent streak of success. The song finished 12th out of 15 entries in its semi-final, receiving a total of 28 points.
Eurovision 2025: This marked Croatia’s 30th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Croatia joined the competition in 1993 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2024 by finishing in second place with the song “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” performed by the singer Baby Lasagna.
