Denmark’s national broadcaster DR has released the first details about “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026”, hinting at a return of former contestants to compete for a place in Eurovision 2026 to be held in Vienna, Austria.
Few days after Eurovision 2025’s Grand Final, Denmark confirmed its participation in the upcoming contest, announcing that the country’s representative would once again be selected through “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix”. The show will take place on February 14th, 2026, in Frederikshavn. Today, DR has published the first details about the Danish national final, hinting that some artists would make a comeback and try to represent Denmark at Eurovision once again.
During the annual meeting of the Danish fan club “Melodigrandprixfans.dk”, Erik Struve Hansen, the head of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, revealed exciting new details about next year’s production:
According to Struve Hansen, “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026” is expected to be a modern, renewed, and innovative musical show, featuring a new stage, an updated logo, and a refreshed visual identity. This year, DR is placing special emphasis on attracting a younger audience to the competition, with the aim of branding it as a modern show that will deliver a strong result for Denmark at Eurovision, after five years without notable achievements in the contest.
Competing Songs
Eight songs will compete in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026, some of which have already been selected. According to reports, participating artists will include those who have competed in past editions alongside established names making their debut in “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix”.
Song Selection Process
The song selection process for “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026” will involve teamwork by various focus groups. One of these groups will consist of eight Danish Eurovision fans who will play an active role in the decision-making. In addition, a smaller international focus group will provide feedback on the selected songs.
“Dansk Melodi Grand Prix” Format:
The structure of the competition will not change. The final results will be determined by a combination of 50% jury vote and 50% public vote. The jury will be composed of professionals with expertise in music and live performance, with connections to the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and Eurovision. Half of the jury members will be from Denmark, and the other half will be international representatives.

As of today, Sunday, the submission window for entries to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 has officially closed. The submission period was open for four months, from July 2nd to November 2nd, 2025.
Alongside the confirmation of Denmark’s Eurovision participation, DR announced a spin-off event for young performers aged 8 to 15, set to take place one week after the main national final, on February 21st, 2026, at the same venue. However, DR clarified that the children’s event will not serve as a selection for the Junior Eurovision 2025, as the broadcaster does not plan to participate in that contest this year.
