Fanny Biascamano, France’s representative at Eurovision 1997 with the song “Sentiments songes” (in English: “Dreamlike Feelings”), passed away last Saturday. Born in 1979 in the city of Sète, she rose to fame at just 12 years old after performing “L’Homme à la moto” on local television, a cover of Edith Piaf’s classic that went on to sell one million copies in her version. In 1991 she released her debut album, and in 1997, at only 18, she represented France at Eurovision and finished in seventh place with her entry.

Circumstances of Her Untimely Death

Biascamano died at the age of 46 after a battle with cancer. Following Eurovision, she continued performing across France and later embarked on an international tour dedicated to the songs of Edith Piaf. Alongside her musical career, Biascamano also published three books, two of them cookbooks inspired by the cuisine of southern France.

Her family announced the sad news in a Facebook post: “The city of Sète is in mourning… With deep sorrow, her family, loved ones and friends announce that Fanny has passed away. For those who wish to pay their last respects, the religious funeral service will take place next Saturday, January 3, at 9:30 a.m. at the Saint-Joseph Church in Sète.”

Eurovision Success and Legacy

In 1997, the French national broadcaster France 2 selected Fanny to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. She finished seventh with 95 points, receiving the maximum 12 points from three countries: Norway, Poland and Estonia.

EuroMix team offers its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Fanny.

France at Eurovision 2025

“maman” (in English: “Mom”) is the title of the song to be performed by the singer, Louane, who represented France at Eurovision 2025, in Basel, Switzerland. France finished seventh in the final with 230 points. France was ranked third by the judges, but the young singer received only 14th place from the public vote. The seventh place overall was considered low compared to France’s pre-contest odds, where it was ranked third.

This marks the second consecutive year that France has finished in the top 10 at the Eurovision final.

Eurovision 2026: This will be France’s 67th participation in Eurovision. France joined the competition in 1956 and has won it five times over the years. France’s last victory was in Eurovision 1977 with the song “L’Oiseau et l’Enfant” performed by singer Marie Myriam.
