In a recent interview, Antigoni shared her excitement about representing her country in the contest and revealed what she hopes to bring to the stage this May.
Antigoni, Cyprus’s representative for Eurovision 2026, recently sat down for an interview with Andreas Anastasiou, head of the Cypriot delegation for Eurovision 2026. During their conversation, she opened up about her feelings and thoughts ahead of her participation in Eurovision 2026 — where she will perform for Cyprus in Vienna — and spoke about how she intends to represent her country on stage.
“I Want This to Be a Performance – Not Just a Song”
At the start of the interview, Antigoni recalled the moment she discovered she would represent Cyprus at Eurovision and the wave of emotions that overtook her. She explained that upon hearing the exciting news, she was so overwhelmed with joy that she even cried. Soon after, calls from family and friends poured in, expressing how proud and excited they were for her. Antigoni shared her intention to bring that same passion and happiness to the Eurovision stage:
“I want this with all my heart. I want there to be so much energy. I want this to be a performance – not just a song. We have three minutes to deliver something powerful and moving. I want to show our Cyprus”.
Throughout the interview, Antigoni emphasized her desire to showcase Cypriot culture on the Eurovision stage. Drawing on her career, which already combines Cypriot-Greek and Mediterranean music influences, she explained what Eurovision means to her:
“For me, Eurovision is an opportunity for countries and cultures to show what makes them unique. It’s very important for me to bring something that captures the Cypriot essence and our culture — but also something that works internationally”.
Later in the conversation, Antigoni reflected on watching the Eurovision 2005 final, in which Helena Paparizou won first place, bringing Greece its first and only victory in the contest so far. According to Antigoni, that was one of the earliest moments she was exposed to Eurovision and realized that she, too, wanted to step onto that stage one day.
Her vision for an energetic and passionate performance raises questions about the type of song and stage presence she will bring — and whether her performance will resemble Cyprus’s high-energy Eurovision entries in recent years. It is worth noting that last October, about a week before Antigoni was officially announced as Cyprus’s Eurovision 2026 representative, the singer opened for Eleni Foureira during a concert in London.
Foureira, who represented Cyprus at Eurovision 2018, captivated the stage with a powerful and energetic performance — just like the style Antigoni envisions for May. Foureira achieved second place, marking Cyprus’s best Eurovision result to date. This collaboration leaves fans wondering: could Antigoni deliver a performance as dynamic as Foureira’s in 2018? And will she be able to replicate her predecessor’s success at the upcoming Eurovision?
Antigoni – Who Are You?
Antigoni, originally from Cyprus, recently joined the international tour of Marina Satti, Greece’s Eurovision 2024 representative. In various interviews and social media posts, she has often voiced her wish to represent her home country at Eurovision.
She began writing songs as a teenager and studied at London’s BRIT School, which has produced artists such as Adele and Amy Winehouse. In her early twenties, she signed with Island Records and began developing her unique sound—a mix of pop and R&B infused with Mediterranean influences and Greek instruments.
Her music often features bilingual lyrics in Greek and English, reflecting her dual British and Cypriot identity.
Antigoni became widely recognized after participating in the eighth season of the British reality show Love Island in 2022, which boosted her visibility across both the UK and Cyprus. Despite her television fame, she continues to focus primarily on her musical career.
Cyprus in Eurovision 2025
“Shh” is the song performed by Theo Evan, who represented Cyprus at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. The song, performed in English, finished 11th in the first semi-final with 44 points and did not qualify for the final – marking the first non-qualification for Cyprus since Eurovision 2022.
