Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC received a private production proposal to revive its televised national final for Eurovision 2027 in Burgas.

A senior television producer working for one of the private television channels in Cyprus has submitted an official proposal to the Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC to manage, organize, and fully produce an open national final ahead of Eurovision 2027 to be held in Burgas, Bulgaria, according to a report by the Greek website “ilovestyle”.
The Decision in September: Televised Final or Internal Selection?
According to the revealed details of the proposal, the production company offers to assume full responsibility – both in production and organizational aspects and in covering all financial costs of the televised broadcast – to select the artist and the song that will represent Cyprus on the big stage.
The administration of the Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC is expected to convene during September to discuss the available options and make a final decision regarding the selection method for the artist and song that will fly the nation’s flag at Eurovision 2027.
Among Eurovision fans and local artists, there is a strong desire to return to an open competitive format, but due to budget constraints and logistical complexities at the Cypriot national broadcaster, organizing a national final has become an almost impossible task. The last time Cyprus held an open national selection was back in 2015.
If the current proposal proves itself and guarantees CyBC a high-quality production standard that will not expose the national broadcaster to criticism on a domestic or international level, the possibility of staging a national final could become a realistic and imminent scenario.
Well-Known Artists Have Already Submitted Bids
Alongside the surprising proposal to produce a national final, CyBC has numerous proposals on the table from leading record labels and well-known, experienced artists who are interested in representing Cyprus through the familiar internal selection mechanism – a method that has served the nation continuously since 2016.
The full picture is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks: then it will be known whether Cyprus will return to the tradition of televised national finals, or continue with the internal selection formula that has proven to be a great success, taking the nation to the Grand Final in 8 of the last 10 contests – including the historic second-place finish by Eleni Foureira with the hit “Fuego” in Lisbon 2018.
