The Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC faces a crucial decision for Eurovision 2027, choosing between a new National Final and internal selection.

The Cypriot national broadcaster, CyBC, faces one of its most significant decisions in recent years regarding the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster’s management will meet this coming week to finally decide how the country’s entry for Eurovision 2027 will be selected. Two main options are currently on the table: producing a full televised national selection or continuing the tradition of a direct internal selection in collaboration with record labels.

The current timing is particularly unusual for the Cypriot delegation. This is likely the first time that mid-September has arrived without the public broadcaster making an official decision on the format to select the entry for the upcoming contest.

A National Final

During the upcoming week, a well-known TV production company operating in Cyprus, linked to a major commercial broadcasting channel, is expected to present a detailed proposal to CyBC’s management for an official national final. A recognized television director behind the project will attend a special meeting with senior broadcaster officials to present the full plan.

According to details revealed by journalist Kostas Karnakis on the show “Me Agapi Christiana” on ALPHA Cyprus, the proposed model includes a series of clear features:

  • All production costs will be covered by the production company and commercial sponsorship, at no financial cost to CyBC.

  • Registration will be open to artists from Cyprus and Greece, with every entry required to feature at least one Cypriot creator (performer, composer, or lyricist).

  • Rumors suggest a main sponsor is already secured – a large Greek cosmetics company.

  • The competition will feature ten entries performed live.

  • The televised selection will include the word “Festival” in its official name.

  • The winner will be determined by a combination of public voting and a professional jury.

Internal Selection Pitches by Major Labels

Alongside the national final proposal, CyBC received heavyweight pitches from two massive record labels from Greece and Cyprus: PANIK Records and Heaven Music. According to a report by EurovisionFun, the two companies jointly proposed four highly popular artists from their rosters, some of whom are considered top-tier prominent names in the Greek music industry.

These proposals relate to a direct internal selection route, similar to how Cyprus has operated in most recent years. As with past projects, both record labels committed to covering a significant portion of the entry and delegation’s production costs, should one of their artists be chosen to represent the nation.

The final decision will be made in the coming days by the CyBC board of directors, weighing the budgetary impact, the benefit to the contest, and the public television’s image both in Cyprus and on the international stage. The delegation’s main objective remains unchanged: to stage an entry and performance at the highest level that will bring pride to the island.

Cyprus at Eurovision 2026

JALLA” (in English: “More”) is the song that was performed by the singer Antigoni, who represented Cyprus in the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria. Cyprus qualified for the final from the second semi-final and finished 19th in the grand final, scoring 75 points.

Eurovision 2027: This will be Cyprus’s 43rd participation in Eurovision. Cyprus joined the competition in 1981 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2018 when singer Eleni Foureira finished in second place with the song “Fuego”.
