CBC/Radio-Canada has dropped some promising numbers in a recent Instagram post, showing off their audience’s burgeoning interest in Eurovision preceding Canada’s first appearance in the contest.
With Eurovision still a bit far away and national final season beginning to creep closer, all eyes are on Canada and its selection for the country’s inaugural appearance in Eurovision. Their respective broadcaster seems to be teasing the fandom with Instagram posts relating to the contest, this time portraying the local audience’s interest in ESC.
CBC/Radio-Canada uploaded two separate posts, one in English and one in French, to their Instagram account, with interesting data inside. According to a national survey conducted by the broadcaster, around 60% of Canadians who are aware of Eurovision have said they will watch if Canada participates. Another slide noted that Canada ranked among the top 3 nations in Rest of the World voting (also part of the figures the EBU published after the 2026 contest in Vienna), another sign of public interest. Of course, they will have their own public and jury vote for the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and will leave the Rest of the World vote.
The rest of the post showed the impact and reach of the EBU. For instance, the sudden major uptick in engagement with Eurovision content on social media, with reports showing the number of views on TikTok and Instagram hovering near the 2 billion mark. Another stat indicates that 130 million people across the globe have tuned in to Eurovision this year, with the number perhaps getting larger with the influx of countries for Eurovision 2027.

What’s Next for Canada?

CBC/Radio-Canada will release its final shortlist of artists soon in the autumn, followed by a vote split between the local audience and a special panel of musical judges to decide which artist they think should lead Canada’s debut appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest in the coming May. The Great White North may have another one of its trademark freezing winters ahead, but its passion and momentum seem to be slowly heating up and gaining more steam as Eurovision 2027 inches closer each day.
Eurovision 2027: This will be Canada’s 1st participation in Eurovision. Canada joined the competition in 2027 and will appear for the first time next May in Bulgaria!
