CyBC is reportedly planning a two-stage Eurovision 2027 selection, with a jury and the Cypriot public choosing the song from up to five options.

According to a report in the Greek media based on information from major record labels in Greece and Cyprus, CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster, will once again work with record labels on its Eurovision selection. The process is expected to have two stages and, for the first time since 2015, involve the public – although it will not take the form of a traditional national final. Cyprus has already reportedly identified several artists who could be in contention to represent the country at Eurovision 2027.

According to an exclusive report by our Greek colleagues at Eurovisionfun, CyBC is planning an unusual selection method for Eurovision 2027. The format is reportedly similar to the approach Finland used in 2018 with singer Saara Aalto. She was selected internally before performing three original songs at UMK 2018, from which Finland’s Eurovision entry was chosen.

Under the reported plan, a professional committee at CyBC will first select the artist and then announce their identity. This would mark a change from previous years. After the artist is revealed, the broadcaster will select a shortlist of songs, with no more than five options. The artist will perform them during a special programme on CyBC, after which a jury and the Cypriot public will decide which song will represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2027.

Several names are reportedly being considered, including Biased Beast, Josephine and Ivi Adamou.

Cyprus at Eurovision 2026

“JALLA” (in English: “More”) is the song that was performed by the singer Antigoni, who represented Cyprus in the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria. Cyprus qualified for the final from the second semi-final and finished 19th in the grand final, scoring 75 points.

Eurovision 2027: This will be Cyprus’s 43rd participation in Eurovision. Cyprus joined the competition in 1981 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2018 when singer Eleni Foureira finished in second place with the song “Fuego”.
