Who should represent Finland?
The Finnish national broadcaster, YLE, confirmed that the Finnish representative for Eurovision 2025 will also be selected through the local Eurovision pre-selection “Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu,” (UMK), for the 13th consecutive time. The pre-selection has been used to choose Finland’s representatives for Eurovision since 2012 . So, who do we think should represent Belgium?
Benjamin Peltonen: Benjamin is a 27-year-old electro-pop singer and songwriter born in the city of Kaarina, Finland. He began his career in 2012 with the help of his Instagram account, which gained many followers. In 2014, he released his first single in English. In 2020, he released his first album “Someveteraani” in Finnish, which brought him significant recognition in Finland.
In 2023, he participated in the Finnish Eurovision pre-selection “UMK” with the song “Hoida Mut,” which is considered one of the best songs in the history of Eurovision pre-selections. Despite an amazing performance and captivating delivery, he unjustly finished in seventh and last place in the competition. Nevertheless, a year later, he was invited to host the pre-selection and perform his song as part of the guest performances.
His musical career has since grown as he continues to release new singles and collaborate with other Finnish artists, such as BESS, who placed third in the Finnish Eurovision pre-selection in 2022. Together, they released the single “Perammin Ku Kukaan Muu,” which is currently leading the music charts in Finland and is performed at various events, such as the Helsinki Pride Parade. Benjamin is a charismatic and amazing pop singer with unique and addictive songs of very high quality and a talent that not every artist in the industry possesses today, making him capable of easily bringing Finland the first place in the competition and winning the audience’s hearts.
KUUMAA: KUUMAA is a Finnish pop band originating from Helsinki, formed in 2016. They released their first album “KUUMAA” in 2019, which achieved gold certification. In 2022, they released the first single from their second album, “Tulipalo,” which garnered approximately 24 million streams and reached first place on the charts in Finland.
In 2023, the band participated in the UMK with the song “Ylivoimainen,” but unfairly only reached fifth place in the competition. Since then, their pre-selection song also amassed around 24 million streams and was awarded “Radio Song of the Year” in Finland. Their second album, released about a month after their participation in the pre-selection, achieved approximately 80 million streams. The band won the Emma Gaala award for Band of the Year. In 2024, the band members performed their song as guest artists in the Eurovision pre-selection alongside Benjamin Peltonen, who hosted the pre-selection and competed against them the previous year. Currently, they have released their new album “Pisara meressä,” which is receiving significant publicity, and they are performing at various well-known festivals in Finland. The band has the potential to achieve a very high result in Eurovision and capture the audience’s hearts.
Isac Elliot: A 23-year-old pop singer, dancer, and actor of Swedish-Finnish descent, born in Kauniainen, Finland. Who should represent Latvia?
The Latvian national broadcaster, LTV, has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025. This year, the Latvian representative for the competition will once again be selected through the Latvian pre-selection “Supernova.” Supernova will return for its tenth edition. Song submissions for Supernova will open on August 20, with the final of Supernova 2025 taking place in February. Who do we think deserves to represent the Latvia?
Alekss Silvers: A 29-year-old singer, television and radio show host, born in the city of Liepāja, Latvia. From 2014 to 2016, he served as the host of the Latvian entertainment program “Bla Bla Šovs.”
In 2019, Alekss participated in the Latvian Eurovision pre-selection “Supernova” with his first song “Fireworks,” written for him by Latvia’s 2015 Eurovision representative Aminata, but he failed to advance to the final. A year later, he returned to the pre-selection with the song “Again” and once again did not make it past the semi-final. In 2024, Alekss returned once more to the pre-selection, this time with the strong and impressive song “For the Show,” which had great potential for an outstanding result in Eurovision. However, no one anticipated that singer Dons would compete with his song “Hollow,” which held the title of Song of the Year in Latvia and, due to its fame, was the clear winner of the pre-selection, completely diverting the audience’s attention from the other contestants. Although Alekss managed to reach the final, he unjustly finished in fourth place, due to the audience’s complete disregard for his incredible talent, vocal abilities, and stage charisma.
With the right song and a particularly powerful stage performance, he could bring another victory to Latvia in the competition. According to the singer’s announcement, he hints that he might return to the Latvian Eurovision pre-selection for 2025.
RAUM: A 36-year-old rock singer and songwriter born in Riga, Latvia. He began his career in 2010 as the lead singer of the Latvian punk band “Double Faced Eels,” and together they won the “Best Cover” competition in Los Angeles.
The band participated in the Latvian “Supernova” with the song “Fire” and finished fourth in the final. In 2021, he started his solo career and participated in the second season of X Factor Latvia, where he reached eighth place. In 2022, he took part in the Latvian Supernova as a solo artist with his song “Plans” in English, finishing ninth in the final. Ollie is a highly skilled artist who produces powerful rock songs in English and has worked very hard over the past two years on his songs for Eesti Laul. He deserves the opportunity to represent Estonia and bring the competition to Tallinn for the second time with a strong and memorable rock song.
Tommy Cash: A 32-year-old rapper and producer born in Tallinn, Estonia. He is best known for his humorous music style and provocative music videos that accompany his songs.
