The Czech broadcaster has announced the cancellation of the “ESCZ” national selection, which Czechia has used to choose its Eurovision representative and song since 2018, and a switch to an internal selection process.

Four days after confirming its participation in Eurovision and opening the submission window for songs for the Czech selection process for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, the Czech national broadcaster, ČT, has released new details about the expected procedure for selecting the country’s representative for the competition. The national selection used by Czechia to choose its representatives from 2018 to 2024, known as “ESCZ”, has been cancelled and will be replaced by an internal selection.

In a statement issued by ČT, it was announced that the internal selection will be conducted by weighing the votes of Czech demoscopic jurors (a sample group representing Czech public opinion), international jurors, and a Czech professional panel – all of whom will vote and choose the Czech song for Eurovision 2025. The national broadcaster did not disclose the percentage influence of each group on the results.

Registration for the Czech selection process is open to Czech singers only. Songwriters from around the world who have not yet found a Czech singer to perform their song are also invited to submit a song for the competition. The registration window for the selection process will close on September 30th. The registration form can be found HERE!

It is possible that the cancellation of the Czech national selection was due to the broadcaster’s dissatisfaction with the result of singer Aiko at Eurovision 2024, who was chosen through the national final and placed 11th in the semi-final with 38 points, failing to qualify for the grand final.

Czechia in Eurovision 2024

Aiko represented Czechia in Eurovision 2024 with the song “Pedestal.” The song was selected through a national final. Aiko did not advance to the grand final, finishing in 11th place in the semi-final with only 38 points.

Eurovision 2025: This will be the 13th participation of Czechia in Eurovision. Czechia joined the competition in 2007 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2018 when singer Mikoláš Josef reached sixth place with the song “Lie To Me”.
