The Ukrainian national broadcaster, Suspilne, has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland.

The Ukrainian national broadcaster, Suspilne, has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland. Ukraine becomes the 27th country so far to express interest in participating in the upcoming Eurovision, following Austria, Azerbaijan, Italy, Belgium, United Kingdom, Georgia, Germany, Denmark, Israel, Luxembourg, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Malta, Norway, San Marino, Spain, Serbia, Portugal, Finland, Czech Republic, France, Cyprus, Croatia, Sweden, and the host country Switzerland.

The Ukrainian broadcaster has not yet released information regarding the country’s selection process for the next Eurovision. However, Ukraine typically selects its representatives through the national selection show “Vidbir,” and it’s likely to be the same this year. The Ukrainian national selection has been used by the country since 2016, when Ukraine won the contest for the second time with Jamala and her song “1944.”

Ukraine’s Eurovision Success

Ukraine, alongside Sweden, is the most successful country in Eurovision in the 21st century. It has won Eurovision three times:

  • 2004: Ruslana with “Wild Dances”
  • 2016: Jamala with “1944”
  • 2022: Kalush Orchestra with “Stefania”

Additionally, Ukraine has finished second twice and third twice. Notably, Ukraine has never missed a Eurovision final – the only country to hold this title besides Luxembourg, which returned to the competition in 2024.

The official list of countries competing in Eurovision 2025 is expected to be revealed in October.

Ukraine in Eurovision 2024

Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Teresa & Maria.” The duo won the Ukrainian national selection “Vidbir 2024” and finished third in the Eurovision final with 453 points.

Their entry is notable for being the first since 2002 to place in the top 5 while performing second in the running order, a position traditionally considered challenging in Eurovision statistics.
